As far as modeling amps go,the vox ad blue grille series are great, such as the ad30,60 or 120.They pretty well nail the tone of many vintage and late model amps such as Fender,Marshall,Vox,Mesa Boogie and even Dumble. They also come with dozens of factory presets of tones used in many popular songs to save you the trouble of tweaking.Their onboard effects are great and their modulation effects:Leslie,Univibe, phaser, tremelo etc. are phenominal. You can pick up used ad 60s etc. pretty cheap these days. Some people say Voxes aren't reliable but I have had no problems with my 2 and my buddy has a '66 Berkley that's still going strong.

You may want to check a Fender Super Champ XD. Its a very versatile amp for many styles of music. I use mine for rock and metal as well.

You also might want to post this question in the amp fourms. You might get a better idea of what your looking for.

Randall. Inexpensive. Loud. Crappy clean tone but TONS of gain for playing dirty. Perfect for the metal head on a budget.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I'd give Egnater a look. I have the Rebel and it's got great cleans, great classic rock sounds and more gain than you could imagine. It's a good gain too. I actually changed the preamp tube in V1 to drop it a little and it still has great gain if I want it. It's a really versatile amp.

Some good advice. What is your budget? There is quite a bit to choose from .The Egnater is one versitile amp.Depends if you want to go tube or solid state, but you cant beat the cleans of a nice tube amp.SCXD is decent and pretty reasonable.Never been a big fan of modelling amps, too much a compromise in tone.

Yeah, what kind of money do you have?

I would recommend Hughes and Kettner or Mesa Boogie, but those are really high dollar.

Want to buy my Carvin V3 head and cab? I'm going to trade it in anyway.

JCM 800 head and 1969A cab would be my choice. Its probably just the speaker cab you've seen for $400. Which incidentaly is a tremendous price if its a G-75 equipped 4x12 marshall cab.
