I'm pretty close in purchasing my first American Standard Strat. But I have a dilemma.
I now have a Japan strat with Texas Specials on it that I'm about to sell after I'm taking the PUs off. Cause I have to say I adore those PUs.
I haven't decided whether or not I'm changing the OEM Alnicos of the strat with the texas Specials or is it a sacrilege to mess with the electrics of a new guitar and installing the old TSs as soon as I'm getting the axe.

What is your opinion about the PUs on the new American Standards?

No, its not sacrilege on an AMerican Std. If it was a high $$ vintage strat it would be. Other than that, Strats, more than any other guitar, begs to be mod'd. I find it impossible go keep them stock.

Why dont you wait to sell the MIJ/TexSpec guitar until after you've had the AmStd for a while?

Because there is a tiny issue called not-enough-money and a huge, called, my-wife-won't-let-me have two guitars in the house. One is more than enough (she says).

I suggest the possibility you need a new wife. If she won't let you have 2 guitars then there are prolly other issues as well, am I right? Does she allow you to place limits on any single aspect of her personal life? Yet she feels justified placing limits on yours. My wife was a control freak too. I divorced her. Yes, it cost me plenty but now I'm happy instead of miserable, I know exactly where my balls are and I can have as many guitars as I please.

Just sayin'....

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I like Big Jays advice.Used to have a wife like that.Needless to say my 3 strats and 3 amps dont miss her. Seriously , the pickups on the American Standard are good pickups.I have 2 guitars with texas specials on them and an American Standard.I like both pickups for different reasons.

To be honest, I didn't think that this topic would end up like this.

First of all, my wife is NOT a control freak. On the contrary, she supports me on everything I choose and she's an angel. And believe me I used to have relationships where the chicks were willing to torch my guitar for paying more attention to it than them (true story). But my wife isn't like that at all (and that's why she IS my wife).

The thing is that I trust her being the voice of reason when I'm often blinded by desire.
I could go and buy the AmStd first thing in the morning If I wanted to. That's not the case. I have more than enough of the required amount. The case is that she's 8 months pregnant, and we're expecting to have our baby till January 10th. So some restrain on the money spending is the wise thing to do right now. I'm not expecting to get the new strat till Spring anyway but I wanted to hear the opinions on the PU matter.

So please, let's stick to the "Is it wise to mess with a new strat's electric" thing and don't go to the "Divorce the $@!&*" thing...

And by the way, I am from Greece... The best deal on an AmStd is to buy it online from an eShop in Great Britain for about 900 euros( $1345 that is). The MIJ strat will be loaded with the set of SCNs I used to have till a month ago and I'm expecting to get some 400-450 euros out of it (Some guys allready interested). So I would be half way there. Not a big deal but it's something.

glad you said that mate. people insinuating you must have a terrible marrage because your wife says one guitar is enough is just ridiculous.

I have to agree with you there.

Anyway, to answer your original question Alex, I'll bet you anything those pickups would sing though the strat. Infact, there are a lot of people who have swapped in some Texas Specials on their strats.

Do what your instincts tell you. You'll have an awesome guitar in the end, either way.

Maybe cheaper but it's only money and I'll live longer without the added stress. You remember what stress is, right? It's when your mind over-rides your body's basic need to choke the living poop out of some witch that really needs it. Giving up that particular stress added more than a decade to my life expectancy.

And I found my nads again

how much for the MIJ Strat and can you post pics! I might know several people who would buy it off you.

ANd theres nothing bad about putting the PUPS you like in a brand new guitar, if you like them, then you want them in your new axe, i say go for it!
