Does anyone have any experience with either of these, or can make a recommendation?

I like the aged look of the Fenders but Im not sure if thats not just the lighting in the other Kluson pictures. What do you think?

Do you think they would be the same size? In other words, I know I need adapter bushings for the Kluson tuners, since I have 10mm holes and the Klusons are smaller vintage sizes (talked to them and they confirmed) and I wonder if the Fender vintage tuners are the same size so the same bushings would fit.

Im picking one of these up soon and was wondering if anyone had experience with them and wouldnt mind sharing, thanks.

Me again!

I have extensive experience with all of Fender's tuners. The modern design Schaller, Gotoh or Ping brand tuners on Fenders are all superior to the Kluson reissues. And yes, you'd have to buy the bushing adapters if you were to change to the Klusons. If you like the look of the Klusons, that's one thing but again, you will NOT get superior performance from them over the Schallers, Gotohs or Pings. And don't forget, you'll have holes and imprints showing from the OEM tuners if you downgrade to the Klusons which, you'll have to make even more holes to install.

Ok, interesting.

I am going for a more vintage style and have MIM Fender tuners on mine now. I found a CBS headstock style neck to replace my warped neck at a pawn shop and its got no tuners!

How do the Kluson and Fenders compare to each other?

Because they are reissues, the Klusons have an inferior gear ratio; they slip and they jump at times too where oftentimes, the string simply cannot be exactly tuned. Their worm gears (moving parts) tend to wear out easier as well. Also, the lubrication holes in their housings attracts dirt and grit which do get into the gears.

Any you can recommend that have the vintage look but lack the aforementioned problems? Are they really that bad? Isee them all the time on the Fender RIs and stuff.

I want to maintain that vintage look the headstock has.

Ill be gigging a little bit but nothing too seriosu.

Here are two candidates, both Schaller:

and

http://guitar-machine-heads.com/hp135150/ST6B.htm

Obviously, the first one is for a 70s or 80s look whereas the second is for a 50s or 60s look. Yes, I'm aware of the lubrication hole in the second example. Yet, the machine head is far superior with even superior grease in it to where under normal conditions, it's not even an issue.

On the 2nd link, it says only 3left and 3 right, is that what Im seeing, that they are not for Fender? I cant figure it out, I dont think theyd work, unless I were to do some grinding, which is not preferable... doable though.

How do you feel about these:

Gotoh Vintage Locking tuners

or

Callaham Vintage Tuners

Both have 15:1 ratio

I didn't catch that 3 + 3 limitation. I know they used to make the 6 in line jobs but apparently, if they don't list them any longer, they may not. You could always shoot them an e-mail and ask though.

Grinding them down is no problem and I've done that a few times in a pinch. Unfortunately, you also have to remove three of the covers via two tabs per head to where the stem of the tuner must be reversed to make them all right handed, six in line which also involves disassembling the machine head in its entirely. Unfortunately, this aspect of it makes it a project. So, here's your next best bet:

The difference between Schaller and Gotoh is that German steel is harder than Japanese steel.

Check Edit!

Callaham seem to be the ones to go with, if I dont want to jump 50 bucks, what do you think? I think Gotoh makes their tuners, if I recall correctly.

Per my above post, Gotoh would be my second choice. Note that you do not have to go through Callaham to buy a set of Gotohs.
