Hi guys,

I'm thinking of giving these Elixir strings a try on my Strat and was looking for some advice.

The set I wish to try are .10 gauge (I already use .10 gauge strings on the guitar) but use a slightly heavier bottom three strings.

If you take a look at this link, they are the second of the .010 gauge 'light' electric strings with the Nanoweb coating, and as you will see, the bottom three strings are a little heavier than the first 'light' set.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether it would be necessary to make any major setup alterations to the guitar to try these, other than the usual action/intonation adjustments (I'm mainly referring to nut/truss rod work)?

Has anyone else tried these (or Elixir strings in general) and if so, what were your views?

Thanks as always for any help or advice you can give,

Russ

Its highly unlikely that you'll need to adjust the trussrod, not a certainty though. The nut will be fine, they come cut to take up to .012"s.

My experience of elixir strings is that their not much use for anything aside from dulled down jazz type chording. They seem to have great tone for a couple of days. They then become very run of the mill and stay that way for 18months before they finaly give up. They do last longer, but its longer at not as crisp or characteristic as normal strings. Kind of a double edged sword. You may like em so they are worth a try. I found I do better with regular strings and a wipe down after playing.

Thanks for the advice!

I may give them a try and if so, I'll review them in a post to give my opinion.

Thanks

Russ
