Do any of you guys have any idea of the value of a guitar that is on display at my local guitar store? Sorry no pics.
It is a black Aerodyne crafted in Japan serial R015328 so a 2005 nos model. There is no pickguard, the three single coils are mounted directly on the body and last detail, the jack plug is on the side of the guitar (Tele style). I have been intrigued by this guitar since I first saw it three years ago but I just can't seem to be able to GAS for it even if it is a very cool looking guitar. Any suggestions/ideas to make me change my mind? :)

Update, I don't know if the link will work but here it is.

It seems that they don't authorize data transfert, but it is the only place where I found a picture after a long search.

G'day Claude. I googled and found a pic and it sure is one cool looking Strat. I have no idea as to price but it sure looks good. More like a full on shred machine. Maybe the unusual features and the "slab" body will hekp sway your decision.

How does it play? Have you tried it?

Cheers, Markus.

Hi Markus, I tried it unpluged a few times in the past two years or so and maybe it is my lack of electric guitar culture but as I said, I seem to be unable to GAS for it. They are currently selling it cheaper than a MIM, maybe because that they want to get rid of it. I think that this weekend I'll give it another try. See ya. :)

Hi Claude: I can only find one Japanese Aerodyne on Ebay in North America right now, so that's not much to go by. At this moment it is $600 with four days to go. I seem to recall seeing new ones in the past selling in the $600 - 800 range - but that's from memory.

The one in the catolog on this site is no longer made in Japan. I'm not absolutely certain whether it comes from the Mexican or American factory - though I see the body is finished in urethane, so that would tend to suggest Corona:

It is nice, though different in various ways from the Japanese ones. Most noticeably the figured top.

I feel mildly gassy about Aerodynes. You don't often see bound bodies on Strats (for obvious reasons) so this is a rare offering from Fender. No forearm contour is a consequence of that binding, of course.

If the price is right on the one you're looking at I might be tempted - though Fender Japan also do the Aerodyne with a very nice metallic blue, and that would tempt me more! Not a hundred percent sure about painted headstocks though...

Let us know what you decide - oh and please tell us whether the Japanese version sports a sculpted neck heel. I notice the non-Japanese one does.

Cheers - C
