Actually I'd like to see a redwood fretboard just like the title of the post.

Both of those guitars look great. I couldn't decide myself. :]

What I will say is that you'd have to be kind of nutty to be able to tell somebody on the street that there is a noticeable difference in the wood of a guitar plugged in with the overdrive on. To me, it makes about as much sense as Eric Johnson being able to tell the difference in sound from the batteries he uses.

I have to guitars that have RW, and I love them. But for me, a Tele or Strat just seems right with maple. I have never loved the look of RW on a Fender....I don't know why....something seems off.

Have you ever seen a Les Paul with a Maple FB? Me neither, but I have seen copies of LP's that have maple necks....again something looks wrong

So to me, fenders should have maple and Gibsons should have RW

Yeah I played a maple boarded LP. A very acquired taste as far as sounds go. Imagine a les paul that cant do drive, thats what you've got. I dont know what it is but it sounds terrible driven. Nothing like the old maple necked LP. The un-filled maple neck is a joke of an affair too. Then you've got the unappealing visual aspect to contend with.

Z Wylde's custom LP has a maple board and maple neck, and he seems to do okay with high gain.

Yea, his sounds like crap too, he can't even get a pinch harmonic out of that thing

Nothing to do with his signature emg81/89 set in it?

Cmon lads do you honestly think I'm that dense.

[EDIT] 81/85set.

[EDIT 2] Whats he done since no more tears? The black label society are a joke band aren't they?

I don't follow Zack so I don't know. I was not trying to make fun of you, I understand what you were saying. Just not sure how much the maple neck and FB had to do with that particular guitar you mentioned sounding like crap. The pu's were my first suspec though.

I do know that Black Lable Society was not a joke band and they play some heavy stuff. I think they were a pretty good Heavy Metal band, but I never listened to them enough to know for sure
So for me, with a Fender, give me maple

Dont sweat it Firstrat I know your motives are sound. Anyone must admit though the emg81/85/89 pickups dominate a guitars sound. To the point you can put them in a cheap £200 korean jackson and have it sound just the same as a £3000'er. Much as I did some time back.

The recent maple boarded LP has Gibsons 57classic pickups on it. People dont complain about them on the 58RI, I heard nothing wrong with em trying a 58RI. They are considered low output. They sound fine to me in other applications though. Could it be the all maple construction. Maple chambered body with a 2 piece maple neck and board?

Thats all I can put it down to.
