My guess is that he was joking, since Old Spice Cologne contains denatured alcohol and Benzyl alcohol, and the after-shave contains those two plus Propylene Glycol. These alcohols would actually further dry out the fretboard, which is the opposite of what I'm trying to achieve.

Okay, I am willing to believe that!

I only oil/clean my rosewood boards once or twice a year. My 1974 Strat is showing no ill effects from this schedule and it's older than some of the kids posting to this forum :D

I use "Old Spice" aftershave to clean my fretboard once a year and that's it.

Good Lord - I haven't seen Old Spice since the mid-'80s!

Mr Thorn, your aftershave is older than some of the kids on this website too!!!

Cheers - C

Brother Ceri, you can still find it around. The last time I bought a bottle was from Target (it's a discount retail chain here in the States). I don't use the stuff on my face, only my fretboard.

Heres an Old Spice commercial

Have you ever smelt Old Spice? The last time I wore that stuff I was attacked by wild dogs.

 Last time I wore it the wild dogs ran away screaming!

Mid-'80s I was working backstage in a theater. They needed a bottle of Old Spice as a prop in one of the shows - revealingly the distributor was only too ready to supply several cases of the stuff for free. Far more than required, so dozens of bottles sat around for months at the stage door for anyone who wanted to take. But nobody did.

Eventually I took a bottle home to give it a try. On the negative side my girlfriend left, but more positively I always had several seats to myself on the train.

Eventually I found it was very effective for cleaning drains.

Cheers - C

PS I do hope that mthorn00 was joking...

I must admit: Although I haven't used Old Spice in decades, I did at one time (that is, on my person, not fingerboards). Maybe it's because I'm an old fart and Old Spice was extremely popular back say, around the CBS Fender years. I still do like the smell of it but I wouldn't use it any more.

Anyone else, especially my fellow geriatrics dare admit this also?

At forty-four, I'm not old, but I DO have a bottle of the aftershave on my dresser.

BTW - the Guitar Honey did a nice job on the fretboard. It comes in a spray bottle and puts more oil on the board than I had been applying with a rag. I let it soak in for five minutes and then wiped it down.

It looks and feels great!
