I think I have a problem with the truss in my Mexican made HSS Strat. I cant keep the thing in tune and everything is frettin' out. A certified repairman has deemed I need a new neck, i just got this baby in December? What could the problem be, and is this assumption accurate?

If you bought it new from an Authorized Fender Dealer it should still be under warranty.

Have you tried to adjust the truss rod any? Is there any chance that the adjustment nut or screw has been stripped and can't be turned? This might not be a truss problem, the guitar could be shimmed improperly or the bridge adjusted improperly. What all did the guy who said you needed a new neck do to the guitar before he pronounced his verdict?

I think that guy is just trying to get money out of you by telling you your neck is no good. I can't imagine a Fender neck leaving the factory completely trashed like that.

Is the guitar new? old?

A mexican neck is usually top-notch.

You ask me? I'll say that the problem is what you just described. But why is it a problem? To find out what causes the problem you may have to do some research on your own(smartest thing you could do in life). But i can give you some advices:
- First up, hold your guitar up against the light, place youre eyes at the edge of the body(nose on the strap button) and just look at te reflections of the light to see if the neck is twisted towards right or left, or if it looks straight. If it's straight it got potential.
- Then lay the guitar on a table and use a ruler to check the frets, if some of them are lowered(then you could search YouTube for any vids where someone sands or fix frets) or if the neck is bended forward or backward (then its a truss rod thing)

Do I understand you if I'm guessing you bought a used guitar? Then you're maybe the guitarist who likes things that is worn. It's always nice to play on a old neck, as long as its in god shape. So make sure that the frets are same hight, the saddles (on the body) got the right hight, and that the truss rod is perfectly(do not turn to hard on the truss rod, might break)

On my one I removed the string guides on the headstock, might work out fine if the machine heads ain't to high. I think they're just annoying cause they kinda hold back the strings sometimes while using the tremolo, and dragging the strings completely out of tune.

At last I'd like to say, I really don't like guitartechnicians (or what you call it in English) who gives them self the right to act like a complete arrogant ***(piece of bad language), just because the authority they have or think they have. Last time that happened to me, I started to do the fixes myself.

Good luck!

I've heard that solid body guitars make excellent fence post.

Yes, but is it farther to New York than by plane?
