Its easier for the guy to set up and it keep in tune better for sure. A floating bridge can stay intune better than a flush bridge if set up properly. Reason being a bit of backpull on the trem is quite vital to getting good stability.

If your setting it flush block the trem off with a lump of wood.

I did the same thing to my AM STD. I tightened the claw and added 10's. I set the relief via the truss rod, which just needed a little bit of tightening.

Then I set the action at the bridge.

I like the 10's on a strat.

All of mine are raised again with .11 strings. I had the guitars with the raised bridge then decked than raised again and that is the feel I prefer now. With the good setup the tunning is stable. I am not doing any live work now so no hard wanking (on strings).

I had an American Deluxe I set up both ways, flush and floating. Believe it or not, it stayed in tune much better floating. Now i have a reissue with a vintage 6 pin( which i switched out for a callaham). I use 11's and use the tremolo quite hard at some points, and it stays in tune like a dream (i also switched out the vintage type tuners for sprezel locking, more for string change ease and increase sustain due to the higher mass of the tuners). Ill tell you the one thing I use that works the best for tuning stability; (next to a proper setup, and the grease/graphite mix i put in the nut slots) PURE NICKEL strings. Besides have a much better tone IMO, they dont stretch as much, keeping them in tune. When I change my strings (about every 7-10 days, due to nickel wearing quicker than nickel plated steel) I stretch the strings at the 12thfret until they stop dropping in pitch. On the pure nickel sets, this is accomplished the 3rd or 4th time. On nickel plated steel, i can sometimes do this a couple dozen times, and it still will drop in pitch a bit.

None of my Strats float and both methods are used to keep em that way and work equally fine. Going from 9s to 10s qill feel a bit different in the bending department for about a week if this is your first time using a different gauge. You probably will never go back to 9s again.

Both my Strats are set up flush. So yes on that. I don't like 10s, though (I have always been a boring and simple 9-42 guy). Only go to 10s if that is what you want, not your tech. I was not clear on who was suggesting the move to 10s ...

I have done this on one of my Strats and it does make the tuning more stable. I think the 10's also add to that stability. I wish I liked the feel of the 10's as well as 9's.
