I don't know how many of you are Priemere Guitar readers but they just did an interesting story on the problem with Chinese knockoff guitars. I wasn't aware of how blatant the problem was with guitars. Much like the fake designer bags etc, there are a number of overseas companies selling these. Many are apparently sold in the US and then sold in second hand deals as real. Check out www.bazaarguitar.com, where you can order a Custom Shop Strat for $300. Now I realize that most on this forum could probably tell the difference but I'm sure many of these are sold by the original purchaser to others who might not realize they are buying a fake. I can't believe there isn't a way to shutdown these operations that are so blatant in their use of copyrighted brands. Apparently these guitars even come with fake paperwork!

I am a subscriber so I get the magazine in paper and digital and I received the digital version yesterday. Go to their website and subscribe to the digital version (it's free) and you should be able to find it. Also when you link on www.bazzarguitar.com don't include the comma which I had in the earlier post. Hope you can find the article, very interesting.

Okay, I signed up to read the digital version.

The article was pretty good.

A couple of things they mentioned caught my eye. 1) The pictures you see might be of the real thing, not their fakes! (duh!) 2) you might order a red one, but they send you a green one!

I've seen some of these guitars when i was in Beijing two years ago and those were the ugliest copies I've ever seen.

Those fake Fender copies wont fool most of us who know what an authentic Fender looks like, but they will fool alot of people who are not guitar players and either want to buy their 1st guitar or bargain hunters buying one as a gift for someone else. Unfortunately there are an abundance of offshore factories trying to cash in on the guitar market with fakes.

Those guitars look alot like the one the guy bought off Ebay in one of the other post. Same type of bridge, logo looks similar, tuners look the same. So maybe that's what he bought.

Wow, since coming to this site, I might not have been able to spot one of those fakes. This site is great. Keep posting those Fake Fender sites/pics

The SRV is pretty bad, the red one looks better. I've got a good friend that is a pilot for United who goes to China quite a bit. He said their fakes are getting much better all the time. What I can't believe is that Fender and others can't be more effective in getting these websites shutdown. As you could see in the photo of the red guitar, they come with all the pickguard protective wrap, tags etc. Be aware of this when finding that "great deal" on e-bay.

EDITED: leave it to Caleb to take a fun conversation way too far -- post deleted and please refrain from such commentary in the future. --Brad
