About 8 months agao, I picked up a new American Deluxe Strat in aged cherry sunburst. I really liked but unforunately, I recently bought a used LP Std flametop that also had a cherry sunburst finish and I could not have 2 guitars with the same finish. That just wouldn't do so since I always wanted an flametop cherry sunburst LP since I can remember, the Strat had to get refinished.

I wanted a finish that was retro, red and not that common so I went for a ruby red metal flake. Mike Learn out of Colorado did the work and it turned out fantastic IMHO. His turnaround was pretty quick, the price was very reasonable and, to quote another infamous guitar painter ;), "The finish is as slick as glass.". Anyway, here she is.

Looks great, but why couldn't you have 2 cherry sunburst guitars? I have 3 all cherry sunburst. Not what I wanted 35 years ago when I bought the first ( A Les Paul Custom, wnated black ) but after getting it the burst just grew on me now it's my favorite finish. By the way what did you finish the strat with?

Sorry, just reread your post and saw that it was done by someone else. Did you send him the guitar, or do you live in Colorado? Again the finish is really nice, reminds me of a local band here years ago the did all their guitars in candy apple metal flake, looked nice.

Because I'm crazy like that. I have 8 electrics right now and they all have pretty unique finishes except for my LPs (amber and cherry sunburst) and my Strat (red metal flake is not that uncommon). I just wanted the Strat to be different yet iconic.

I have no clue what he used other some the final clear being poly.

I just sent the body after I took it completely apart. I've sent him a complete guitar before, when the headstock was painted to match the body but I like how maple necks look with a matching headstock. The headstock and fingerboard colors flow together nicely.
