Three of us are planning lunch at a location in Broward County on 12/19/09. Are you within striking distance of that location?

That would cut into Chanman's odds. I was thinking more along the lines of getting over to 461 Ocean Boulevard in our Forum shirts for a photo op. Worth a cross-country flight to ya??

The size of his head even gets on my nerves, and I literally mean the actual size of his head, it is really big.lol Hey I caught him on fuse doing a show in NY and he was good. Just caught the last 3 songs which were just singer songwriter mellow stuff. I dont hear or see him and jump to change the channel or turn the dial. But please lets just not use his name and the term great guitar player in the same sentence and I think this will all die down real fast. No one uses Springsteen and great guitar player in the same sentence, and he is one of my favorite artist.

What does the size of his head have to do with his guitar playing ability? Please I am not a diehard fan of John Mayer ,but I do respect his ability to play all the Stratocasters he wishes to play and do it quite well. The fact that so many of you have such distaste for this guy leads me to believe that your either jealous of his skill or upset that you don't have the rap to get someone even close to Jenn. Once and for all STOP HATING...

I guess you could say that I'm a moderate JM fan. I did get his new album and I have all of his others as well. I don't think he's the greatest guitar player who has ever lived, but I think he's a very good player to say the least. He is a great songwriter, he has some of the best musicians in the biz in his live and studio bands. Steve Jordan is just a stellar drummer, one of the best. I do agree that he is full of himself, and that does get on my nerves at times. I really respect how successful he has become and I admit I am a bit jealous of that success. He and I are the same age and look where he is and look where I am(I play drums in a semi-successful cover band here in Memphis, and I have a good day job).

My point is, I am appalled by some of the comments I am reading on this forum made by people who's opinions I valued. Honestly, I have lost some respect for a few of the folks here. I know everyone has a right to thier own opinions and sure some people might not like his music or his guitar playing and that's fine. But to just totally bash this guy this way makes me think that most of the people doing the bashing are just jealous of his success and maybe dissapointed in thier own life's direction. I know that I always dreamed, and truly believed, that I would be a famous drummer and would make my living as such. The truth is that I probably never be able to leave my day job as a metal fabricator, and that's ok. I'm fine with that. I also dropped out of medical school, and now my sister is a doctor and..ok I'm going too far out there. :D
Anyways, what I'm trying to say is, whether or not you like the guy or his music, it's very unfair to bash the guy and say that he's a horrible guitar player or that he is a terrible singer or that he's not a "blues" guitarist. He works his $@! off in the studio and tours a lot of the time doing what he loves to do and what most of us here wish we could do.
I know what it's like up on stage night after night like Bob Segar's "Turn the Page", and I respect anyone who can break though and get a major label and have successful-selling albums and tours. I don't like Justin Timberlake's music, but I respect the guy and admit that he is a good singer.

I just think it's ridiculous all the comments I've read on this forum about John Mayer lately. Cut the guy some slack. Don't you wish you could enjoy some of the success he's had? I do. Show a little respect for a fellow hard working musician. It's not easy out there. I know a lot of you have been on stage for years and years too, so you know what I'm talking about. Sorry this was so long. I just felt compelled to speak up. By the way, this is only my opinion...

Hi Doc,
We might have to do that from the sand side. The GBPD might frown on our little photo op.

Also, there are no sidewalks!

HollisPrince now now by your own lips or should I say keyboard you have stated that you are a bit jealous of his success.lol Hey I can understand you feeling that you are close in age and could probably do what he is doing but now lets get serious. Why do you make it sound like all the chances to do something big in life have passed. OK you dropped out of Med school and your sister is a doctor you had the opportunity as her, but I guess it was not in your heart to be one or you would. A lot of people do not hit there stride or become a success till later in life so dont be so down beat, as you will find great opportunities in life it is knowing when to take advantage.

Look at how many kids are TV stars by the time they are 7 years old and then wind up broke and strung out on drugs. To much to soon.

I dont hate John Mayer and neither does most of the forum, as I cannot speak for everyone maybe some do.lol But you will see that most of the guys think he is talented and a good singer songwriter and very capable guitar player and just the mention of his name causes a commotion which is kind of fun. It is when Guitar God or the word best is used that all hell breaks loose. I hate to make playing sound competitive but to keep it real he is not in that class as a player and very few are. He has made a great career for himself and is in touch with a large audience and the bottom line he must sell a lot of guitars for Fender. If we could hook Mike Eldred to a lie detector machine and ask him do you think Beck, SRV and Clapton are great players it will come out yes If they asked him do you think John Mayer is a great guitarist=well lets just say I will psy for the polygraph.lol

JM can play, but he is no slowhand, SRV, or Mark Knopfler. JM is famous for his singing, which I must admit, in my opinion is second rate pub grade, unless filtered through very expensive software. When you consider that without the computer's ability to do this, none of us would know who JM is, it kinda puts it into perspective for me. I am not saying I am a better guitarist than he, but I don't have a sig model due to my abilities with protools.

I like John Mayer's music. I like his new CD. I also like EVH, Prince, Metallica, Grateful Dead, Dave Matthews, Buddy Guy...it's music.

It's art. It's supposed to move and inspire you to think and feel things outside of your normal existence....pull on your emotions.....warp your sensibilities.

The fact that it's POPular doesn't mean that it's bad art. It means he's moved a lot of people, including me. I listened to his new album on my crappy commute home today - very uplifting. An excellent escape.

OT While Britney Spears is not a great songwriter or operatic singer, she is talented. She can dance and perform as well as anyone in popular culture today. A lot of people are impacted in a positive way by her art.

I'm not much of a fan of her art, but I'm not willing to trash her to feel better about myself.

I am a fan of JM though. I don't need his success. I love my life and I'm fine with him sharing his talents with me.

I'm not a pacifist either....I reserve my vitriol for true bastards whose success comes at the expense of others happiness.

I don't understand that just because you don't particularly like someone that you are called a hater. What kind of attitude is that? :?

I don't use the term "hater" - I'm a 36 year old physicist from NH. Me using contemporary urban slang comes off as a bad parody of the main characters from "Office Space".

But this is what the Urban Dictionary defines HATER as:

"A person that simply cannot be happy for another person's success. So rather than be happy they make a point of exposing a flaw in that person. "

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=hater

Do you think this applies?

I don't know about the urban dictionary but that sounds like just a definition of jealousy
