I'm curious how many people here that are in the learning stages record their playing so they can track their progress. I am looking to record to my computer and am wondering what some of you are using to do this. I have been looking at the Line 6 UX1 and the Pod GX. Also, do any of the more advanced players feel it is beneficial to record yourself for this reason ?
Thank you all in advance for your advice and any recommendations on the recording interfaces.

Mike

I can't help but forum members thouston and Miami Mike are the ones to talk to. If you do a search of thouston's post you'll probably find what you're looking for. Good luck! :)

Here is a link to one.

I was under the impression I would need some type of hardware to interface the guitar with my PC. Am I wrong ? If so, how does the sound get from the guitar to the computer ? This will be easier (and cheaper) than I had anticipated. I'm off to download Audacity.

Thanks

I just recently traded a pedal for a Line 6 UX2 interface...I have to tell ya this was one of the best deals i ever made ...I have a small recording studio setup in my home i also connect it to our board when playing live but it was always a pain in the #ss...
The UX2 has changed all that ..I was real leary about getting the UX2 because it was a line 6 product that i have always thought was entry level equipment...But even though the UX2 looks like a toy it is a pleasure to use and has opened up many new doors for me..I have been playing a long time now but if i would have had this as a beginning guitarist or an intermediate player things would have been so much easier..
I use to do like everyone else and print out tabs off the internet or just learn by ear..With the online option that is a thing of the past..It breaks down the tabs for you in several different parts allows you to play with the guitar tracks taken out so you can play along with album like we used to but with only you playing the guitar parts.Which even after playing for a long time is a very helpful learning tool..
But that is just part of it..You have one usb cable going to your computer a regular guitar chord to your amp another to your guitar and away you go..Now set up time is seconds instead of 20 minutes you have a boat load of onboard effects that are really good..You can record track over track with a key stroke..You can do alot with these things..Including making your own backing tracks and Demos ..It has almost endless options ..I highly highly suggest one of these things no matter what level of player you are they are just a great tool for a guitarist..Here is the best part you don't have to be a computer genius to use them ...I can barely turn a computer on and i can use it so some one with even a little more skill can probably do ten times of what im doing..I have had mine for around 3 months and i have just scratched the surface of what it can do...
