I checked another forum friday night, and they were saying Hwy 1 strats were on sale at GC for $429 w/ bag or $388 w/o bag
And I was thinkin about trading in my Toronado for a Hwy 1 strat, so I took it in to Guitar Center.
They said "well, we can only do about $100 credit , so I'd just keep it." So I just laughed, and obviously said 'no thanks', but walked out with a Highway 1 Strat (sunburst/rosewood) for 388 bucks.
What a sweet guitar! All the hardware is good, the finish looks great, plays fantastic.
Thanks again, Fender!

P.S. Guys, go to Guitar center and pick up an awesome guitar for cheap!

-David

What forum did you read that on? That is a crazy price... is it the HSS version or the regular?
Thanks!

I saw it at Harmony Central in the Electric Guitar forum.
I think the subject is 'Highway One Tele', probably a few pages down.
People in Indianapolis, Houston, Detroit, and Medford, OR (me) all got 'em at that price, so call or visit GC

BTW it's the SSS version, I didn't ask about the 'bucker version

I love my HWY1. I learned the hard way not to trade guitars that we love.

I only trade guitars that I don't care about. I had an '87 Strat plus that I miss a lot.

I also Traded a '62 Tele custom that I miss a lot too.

Been calling all the stores in Ohio to get these prices. Some have no clue what I'm talking about, some know exactly what I'm talking about but only have it in trans wine and blonde. I want flat black but I can't get it quite as low as the others. Oh well....

It seems like they are hard to find in Maple necks... I am also not crazy about the large 70's style headstock...

I originally thought about returning my Amer Vintage '57 Commemorative Strat that I just bought for $999 at GC and getting a HW1 since the price is so low but my '57 Vintage is so sweet and will hold it's value more than the HW1 IMHO...

I love my Highway One, 2006 60th Anniversary, wine transparent/rosewood. Beautiful guitar. Beautiful color. I can't believe GC is dropping the wine color and keeping Daphne Blue. That's why the low price because they want to clear out certain colors - but they're among the best colors! I got a hard case with 500 something including tax, looked at the receipt and they listed the guitar for something in the 300s and the case for over 100? Wow. Made me feel like a thief when I saw that. Loved them so much for it I went back and got a Blues Junior.

Here's my opinion about Highway Ones:

Great guitars. I have a SSS. Lots of versatility in tone, from humbucker sounding to bright, using the tone switches and the five way. Neck-mid and bridge-mid cancel hum very well, and also create a really full tone that's great, and then you can switch it around for variety when you're cooking. Have a great sound through a tube amp like a Blues Junior. Through solid state, and I had cheap solid state, the p'ups can sound metallic if the tone knobs are set on bright up around 10. Never a problem with my Blues Junior. Give those p'ups gain and they get fat and really good for blues or bluesrock sounds. You may need to set it up a bit. I put 5 springs in the back and stabilized the trem, then re-floated it up to about the factory spec 1/8" so it's still very good for vibrato when my left hand's busy bending or hammering. I raised the bridge pickup to factory spec because it came in low from the factory and was out of synch with the mid and neck p'up. Really easy to do with a phillips head screwdriver. You may have a little fret rattle, because the truss rod is set for very low action at the factory in every Highway One I've seen. If it's too low on yours for your taste, then it's a simple adjustment at the headstock using a 1/8" allen wrench. I've never changed my truss rod, will put on 10s instead of 9s when it's time to change, and may lower my bridge just a hair when I put on the fatter strings, because I do like a low action for that effortless feel while playing. Imho, and I'm just a middling hobbyist (maybe jam occasionally with others) even though I've been playing a long time, the Highway One's a great guitar. I love it. Setting it up just the way you like it, makes it your own.

Make sure you don't have any problems with the frets. Play down the fretboard down towards the bridge all the way to the 22d fret with bending a full step to make sure you don't fret out or have anything like that happen. One Highway One I saw at a Best Buy (where I won't go to buy a guitar again) was totally fried and had been beaten up somehow.

That's an awfully good deal. I bought my Hw1 Strat, new, in 2005 for $500 (including a free iPod) and thought it was a great deal.

If you find a good one they're great guitars.

I've been playing for 30 years and have had several Strats ove the past 20 years or so, including a restored '57, a new ,86-'57 re-issue, a new '88 Strat plus and a couple of new mid '90s American Standards and my Hwy 1 beats them all.

8) The rumors are true! I went to a Guitar Center in Las Vegas and got a 2006 3-color sunburst Highway One Reg for $388 with Fender DLX Gig Bag! I did what any sane person would do and made the purchase!

I don't believe it! I live in Ireland, and I'll miss out on this deal, just because we don't have GC here and if I wanna get a new HWY 1 here I'll have to spend about €800 ($1K). : (
By the way $390 is only €260, so you can see why I'm upset.

I like the Daphne Blue. I was look for one recently and couldn't find one. I went to another local shop and was able to get one of the Surf Green ones... way better than the others.

I bought a Hwy One about a month ago here in Memphis and paid $629 for it with the gig bag. 2006, sunburst/maple, SSS, small headstock. I had it set up - low action with 10's and man this thing plays like butter and sounds like a $2000 strat! I didn't get the price you guys got though; I got mine at Martin Music.

Hey. I just bought my Highway1 strat from GC Memphis this afternoon after reading about the sale. Awsome! Honey Blond with rosewood that I played 2 days ago but couldn't afford the $749 pricetag. I got it for $388 +tax, $427. out the door!
