With an MIA Std you get:

1) HSC
2) Finer details on a 22-fret neck
3) Alnico Pickups
4) 2-point bridge/trem with better trem block
5) Better color selection
6) Staggered tuners

That's subjective. I actually like the color selection of the MIM standards this go around. The MIA seem to be lacking in reds and blues.

Thats because the reds and blues dont generally sell very well. The sunburst on the MIMs are cheesey looking .much nicer on the MIAS.

This is a good portion of the differences there are a few more
Nitro cellulose Finish versus the poly finish of the MIM
Wood selection for the body and neck are a higher grade then the MIM
Higher quality String trees
There is also a 35 mile difference between the two plants ..

But one argument with the better bridge/trem i prefer the vintage trem of the MIM guitars i do agree the trem block is better on the MIA but not the Bridge its self ..But this is a personnel preference issue..

With all this said the MIM is still a quality instrument..It is up to the individual if the differences are worth the extra $500 t0$600 dollar difference between the two..

I myself feel that the MIM is a great value anda excellent mod platform..Where the MIA is a classic that is best if left the way it comes out of the factory...

I agree, I have played some nice MIM guitars.I am not much of a modder , so i like things good to go right out of the box. Some of the higher end MIMs have great necks, but throw in a case aand the prices are pretty close.I like the pickups and the wiring on the mias, as well as how it feels when I play it.JMHO.

Nothing wrong with MIM's, I play 2 of them, slightly modded, mostly cosmeticly. Am looking into replacing the nuts with brass but not much else at this time.

I thought most MIA's are poly too, not nitro. Except for a few sig. models and customshop stuff. Anyone care to clarify?

2 or 3 piece alder body on a MIA, 5 to 7 piece on a MIM. Generally MIA stays in tune better.

Not always. I just got a used 60s Classic and it's got the nicest grain and airbrush work I've seen. Even my wife said it was the nicest one I've had and she NEVER takes an interest.

I think it's a 3-piece body too.

I have a mim and a mia and don't notice a difference as far as staying in tune.

I agree , the sunbursts on the classic series and especially the classic player are very nice, but those standards, yikes! The higher end mexis are nice guitars. Not much difference in them and the Mia.At that point it becomes a matter of personal taste and a hardshell case.
