Got the pickups from the Japanese Strat installed today....Sounds great!! Guitslinger took it for a test run for me as well and gave the thumbs up! Haven't given up on the hunt for a Strat yet though.

I personnally like the Highway 1, but it is not for everyone. The other guitars that come to mind that are in your budget is the MIM HSS with the Floyd Rose. I played one and the only thing I would change on it is the stock humbucker for something a little hotter. There is the Lone Star Strat. The SD Pearly Gates Humbucker is to die for. You can never go wrong with the American Standard as well.
