Hi guys,

I want to correctly set the pickup heights on my USA Strat which is fitted with the Hot Noisless pickups.

I have checked the fender recommendations and they just give a measurement for the bass and treble side of the pickups. Does this mean that all three pickups should be set to the exact same height by just taking the measurement from the low and high E strings to their pole magnets?

I always thought that the bridge pickup at least was set a little closer to the strings because of the smaller string vibration in this position?

Am I missunderstanding something here?

Thanks guys

Russ :)

8/64 bass 6/64 treble

this from the setup guide
Depress all the strings at the last fret. Using a 6" (150 mm) ruler, measure the distance from the bottom of the first and sixth strings to the top of the pole piece.

Yes, those are the settings I found that Fender recommends for these pickups but that is going to mean that the neck, middle and bridge pickups are going to be set the exact same heights.

Is this correct?

What you need to do is ignore fenders recommended height.
Set your bridge pickup to the height you want, based on the sound you want to acheive.

Set your neck pickup height so that it has a balanced volume to the bridge pickup. You dont want sudden jumps or drops when switching through selections.

Set your mid pickup to match the other two.

One thing I've noticed with these pickups is that they are pretty senstive to to height/distance. So I follow an ealier posters suggestion amd get the bridge to whatever height that allows for good artificial harmonics, then I adjust the mid & necks for the same. In the end, at least with my main guitar, the pup heights are not the same for each.

I had read somewhere that a good twang sound using positions 2 and 4 on the pickup selection switch would be achieved by having the mid pickup lower than the neck and bridge.

I also remember seeing a video on youtube that provides a guide for adjusting the strat pickup height.
