Looking to get a new Strat this month which will most likely be purchased online. We don't have a Fender dealer local and closest store is asking $650 for what most online companies are selling for $499 . Question is the ones which say Fender Standard . Are these the MIm or just a Standard American made?
Thanks

They are MIM's.

American Standard Stratocaster=USA

$650 is too much for a MIM Standard Strat. Go for one of the websites that have it at $499. I got mine at Musician's Friend for that much, and no shipping charge.
You could also try Sweetwater.com.I believe they also would not charge for shipping.

I wonder if that $650.00 price is for a MIA Hwy 1.

Maybe not ... we do not know what country he is in. And I would bet dollars to doughnuts he is not in the U.S.

Yes, it's only MIA if it says so in the name - like Fender American Standard, Fender American Deluxe, or Fender American Vintage. The Highway Ones's are MIA too. Also, most of the signature models are MIA, and of course the Custom Shop models.

The vast majority of the time the tip-off is, if it comes with a gig bag, it is a MIM model; if it comes with a H/S case, it is US model.

True. The only exception being the Highway One model.

Well, I'm assuming he's in the US, as he stated in was 650 DOLLARS in the store and 499 DOLLARS online, the latter of which is what I paid for it and I live in the US.

He did say the guitars he was looking at were designated Standard Strats.

It has to be an MIM Standard ..There is no one selling a American Standard for $650..If it was a lone star or HWY 1 it wouldn't be advertised as a Standard..I live in St Louis Missouri and some of the smaller guitar stores in this area that aren't large Fender dealers charge close to $600 to $625 for a new MIM..Which i find outrages since i can order one online for $450 or less or get one for that same kind of price at guitar center...
At the same time a MIM Standard in Europe and Australia goes for close to $650 or more..

Thanks for all the answers it cleared up what I was asking. I think I will go online and purchase the Standard MIM for $499.00. Also I live in a small town in Ga, Close to Tn line. Most of the shops around my area are locally owned and most are not fener dealers who probaly Buy off line 1 or 2 for $ 499.00 and sell for the profit.
On a smaller note I played a 1996 MIM Strat which flt good and really improved my playing by 50% with just the ease of the set up it had, Will the new ones be set up like it and have a good feel? or will I just need to take it and have it set up?

Depends. Mine was setup pretty well when I got it from Musician's Friend, I may at some point take it to a pro, but that is difficult for me as I have no techs near me. If you have access to a tech, though, I would take it to them for a setup. However, I would get the transaction in writing to make sure you're covered in case the guy screws it up, if you've never dealt with them before.
First rule of " The People's Court", get it in writing.
(gawd, Judge Milian is HOT!)
Ahem! I digress...
