If I get a Gibson I would opt for the SG Standard. I had a '74 Les Paul Classic Custom that got sold 10 years ago to my wife after our divorce and that thing was heavy. Granted, a studio is much lighter. I really like the weight and the double horns. I doubt I'll get one though... too many Fenders still calling out to me!

I'd go for the SG,I have an Eppy G400 Custom Les Paul(3 pups, gold hardware,SG body)and it's way more versatile than a Les Paul plus the SG usually has more sustain.I'm not sure if Gibson is still making the 3 pup model SG but if they are it's a great guitar of course the Eppy is Well worth a look as it sounds and plays just as good or even better than a lot of Gibsons.

What concerns me with the Zoot Suit SG's is this. They are a conglomeration of different color wold laminates. Wood laminate = plywood and that's a LOT of money for a plywood guitar.

No contest: the SG Standard.

The weight variance among Studios alone disqualifies this popular waste of money. I'm talking extremes here, with some as light as a Danelectro Pro...

I agreewith the idea on plywoood.....
I have the email subscription to the Gibby Site. When the featured this "gem". Not sure if anyone else saw the disscussions on the site. But the general census was the same. Overpriced Plywood. I LOVE my mahogany SG. And I didn't spend a mint on her. But that much for Plywood. I used to buy skateboards made out of this with the laminates dyed just like this.lol..

I bought a used SG standard in Boston a couple of years ago for $700, and it is one of my favorite guitars. It amazes me how much tone you can pull out of the 490 and 498 humbuckers. I play in a jazz trio and a blues/rock band and between the SG and my Strat all of the bases are covered. Although, I am looking to add a Les Paul to my collection as soon as the Spring and Summer gigs starts rolling in.
