Les Pauls are common as dirt. Go for the SG and stand out

LP's are both heavy and uncomfortable, they should both sound the same.

If it was me i would go with the SG ..The Les Paul studio is just that a studio guitar the SG is a much better stage guitar IMHO..But if you don't play out go with the Les Paul Studio..
I have never had much love for the Gibson Les Paul.I have always thought they were over priced and that i could get better quality at a lesser price buying a Vintage Ibanez ,Orville,or any high end Matsumoku made single cut away guitar..I recently traded a thinline hollow body Ibanez AW83 for a Ibanez ART 300 Single cutaway guitar and i couldn't be more happier with the quality of this $400 Ibanez in stock condition a Gibson Les Paul made the same way as the Ibanez would have cost me at least $1500 if not more..

I LOVE my SG.
It's comfortable, a great sound, and beautiful.

Also, LP Studio VMs are cheap, way cheap. You can pick up a nice used one on craigslist for around $600, pretty much anywhere. Not sure why everyone wants to sell theirs.

That should tell you something.

No they don't sound the same. They sound similar but not the same.

SG without a doubt. I could never bond with a studio. It's just missing something. Something to look at too is the new EPI Masterbuilt 59 LP. It uses Gibson Burstbucker pups, Mallory caps and a Switcraft jack and switch. I tried one and the thing is incredible. I'd take a Masterbuilt Epi over a lower end Gibby any day of the week. They're around the same money too. I never go by what's on the headstock anyway. If I like it, I like it.

To me the SG is very sexy and sounds brighter than the LPS.
