I'm considering a studio for myself. Those wine red with gold hardware ones are really pretty.

The only Sg I really like is the white one with a bigsby and 3 humbuckers.

I have owned both and personally I would look for a used LP Standard.

I can understand that. That was just not right.

There are some decent used LP Standards, just keep looking.

I'd go for the SG, I've played a few Studios and wasn't crazy about then, although I did playa silverburst Studio that was pretty hot.

I am looking at purchacing a Gibson LP Studio in a few years. I do not like the SG models that much as far as looks.

Take advantage of the recent SG Standard price cut. I love my '76...

Go with the SG. Better sustain at the bridge humbucker than a Les Paul.

Nice guitar. Gibson has them both on sale. Love the wine red studio but I keep hearing the sg is allot better guitar. I agree with earlier post, not crazy about the look of the sg.

I'd go for an LP standard as well.. not too much of a fan of either the SG or the LP studio.....but if I had to choose ... i won't go with the studio ....

It all boils down to personal preference. Now, I don't care for SGs personally but hey..

One thing to keep in mind is that the LP studio has the same pickups as the LP Custom.

Tex,

I've owned a LP Standard, and I now own a LP Studio (vintage mahogany). I sold the Standard b/c I didn't like the neck - slim 60's profile with finished back - made it tough to get around. The Studio VM is all the guitar I need. The neck is a bit chunkier, unfinished, and the pickups are the same as a Standard (I think). It's not the prettiest guitar, but it plays/sounds great. I'll have mine for a lifetime. Also, LP Studio VMs are cheap, way cheap. You can pick up a nice used one on craigslist for around $600, pretty much anywhere. Not sure why everyone wants to sell theirs. Anyway, $600 for a MIA Gibby LP isn't bad. Be careful though, you have to play several to find one you like. Can't speak to the SG - I've never played one. Good luck with your search.
