Hello Folks;

My Dan Smith gold 82 is heavy at 9.2 pounds. Some sat it is not really a Gold Dan Smith.

It has gold hardware including the tremolo big block. How many gold tremolo blocks have you seen lately.

The serial is CA 11635 and the neck is 4 bolt maple signed and dated 2 5 82 by J. Torres.

The pickups are black rubber 1982 dated as you'd see on any 1982 when they started using the black rubber bobbins rather than the gray bottoms.

The pickguard is white black white marked with a 13 and a initial. It is a Dan Smith pickguard. All standard Strats had black pick guards.

The trmolo cover is the same material as the pick guard and the size used on Dan Smith Strats.

The neck plate has a big Gold Fender F on it.

The pots are a mystery to me. There are two 1982 500k CTS pots and the middle tone pot is a Dimarzio 500 K pot. The capacitor looks the same as any 1982.

The neck pocket has a serial sticker in it but is worn through so I can't read it anymore. It also has some black paint looking streaks that make the body look like a refinish. The body however is 9.2 lbs a standard thing that year. the 4 bolts neck was only on Dan Smiths and this body is a four bolt model. The wear through spots every place on the body show no black underneath. There is also painted routs the same as my other regular but liter Dan Smith sunburst. The bodies of both my Dan Smith are the same routs except one is 7.8 and one is 9.2 pounds.

The gold paint on the body is all spider webbed like you would see on a nitro painted strat. It is hard to find others to look at to see what is up with the paint. I have no idea what the Gold Gold was painted with.

Any one who had one or has one please update me. My email is TFi2397856@aol.com

Beautiful guitar.

I want a Dan Smith strat. 82 is the year I was born, I think it'd be cool. But they can get a bit pricey on eBay=\

Very beautiful... looks exactly like the one in this article that I came across a while ago on the site of a local shop.

I'm not usually a fan of gold, but this particular guitar is in a class of its own. Seductive!

Reading the blurb description of the similar non gold strat of that era
brings back memories of a strat i bought new in 1982 ....... small headstock "stratocaster" decal the same. Wonder what happened to
that guitar  Tobacco sunburst, In 82 i paid £389 for it i think !

Wish i still had it.

That neck certainly looks like the "Gold on Gold" neck and the hardware looks right.

That paint job sure hasn't held up. That's enough to make a guy think that the body isn't an original "Gold on Gold" body. It could have been a black body that was refinished Gold ... in some flawed way however.

The body is heavy as I mentioned at 9.2lbs. It is a 4 bolt and show no black anywhere else and the routs are the same as my sunburst. It is a 82 body I'd bet but why so heavy. Most of all what kind of paint was used on the Gold Gold model???

The weight has nothing to do with it. If you aren't the original owner and you can't match up the body and the neck serial numbers, there's no way to be absolutely sure that body is the real thing.

The rest of it probably is. But with that doubt about the body (and the condition of it), I'd say you'd be lucky to get 50% of what a real clean one goes for.

The black painted then scraped away, neck pocket is unusual. I dont recall fender ever painting neck pockets. Not that I know much about cbs strats but is that headstock a little shallow? It seems that from top tuner line to the bottom of the ball end its a little slim. Like I said my knowledge of such things is next to non so please correct me.

Btw that decal is bang on to a Smith Strat I've been playing with today. Thats only £800 though.

Beautifull guitar though, love the lacquer checking.

Hi, nikininja — that article I linked to in my post above mentions the smaller "incorrect" headstock... the Gold on Gold Strats had them, apparently. The author's theory is that this Strat was Smith's fancy test model for what was to become the new standard Strat. The fretboard on these is almost flush with the pickguard, as well. Well spotted!

Well I really should be more attentive. If i'd read that article in the first place i'd have kept my ill informed opinion to myself.

I see what you mean about neck depth. This
Image

Is lke something out of the twighlight zone.

This appears to be a little higher set. Maybe its just my tired old eyes.

Also the cut out between the mouse ears for trussrod access. Is that the norm?

Just a little more info on the gold strats... the very earliest models had this CA prefix. They moved onto a G0 prefix very early on in 1982... it's a Gold/Gold strat alright. Those had actual gold plating. lol

Now go find a walnut strat collector model as its sister. ;)[/code]

I wonder why he's posting about it yet selling it on ebay?
