I just got a used Classic 60s Strat which seems like nice complement to my American Standard... and I already think I prefer the neck.

Anyway, the trouble is it's a bit noisy... well, very noisy.

If I touch anything metal, except for the pickup poles, the noise reduces to the level of the Standard (very low, I think).

Does that give a clue as to what I need to do to remedy the situation?

Also, are the pots, switch and jack socket to the same spec as the American? I got the 60s for a really good price and I'm prepared to spend a bit, if it helps improve it. I might start a different thread on mods for this one, but if anyone has any suggestions I'd be interested.

THANKS!

I have no noise problems with my Classic 60s Strat - other than the usual Single Coil hum in certain circumstances (near Tv monitors, fluorescent lights, nylon carpets etc)

Perhaps you have a duff ground lead on yours? Is it properly attached to the bridge claw assembly under the rear cover plate? Worth checking..

As for the rest of the electrics, the qulaity seems to be fine. I've never felt the need to mess with it as it performs just fine.

The Classic 60s is a great guitar (and the Classic 50s too). Other than fitting a treble bleed cap and changing the nut to Tusque, mine is pretty much stock and I love it. It gets more use than my Highway 1, which I'm always trying to improve...!!

Thanks adey. The ground lead seems okay where it attaches to the spring plate, but I'll check the other end.

Result!

I've shielded all the cavities with copper tape. Much quieter... still a little hissy, but nothing I can't live with.
