Hi Northwood.

I think you'll be far better off with the deluxe trem set up. Its a lot easier to tighten the trem arm on the deluxe system than it is on the American standards system. You simply have to tighten 2 grub screws that go into the trem block on the deluxe trem. Its worth setting up with the trem removed from the guitar body. Theres 2 screws. One adjusts how easy/hard it is for the arm to fit into the tremblock by moving a metal shim inside the block. The other adjusts to grip the trem arm and stop it wobbling.

nikinja - Thanks for that info. I have an American Deluxe but I mostly play without the trem arm. I popped it in just a few nights ago and was disappointed with the wobble. I'll have to look at what's involved in removing the trem unit next time I change strings.

Its the easiest design trem to get out. When you get the strings loose (not all the way off) simply take the spings out of the trem block and spring claw. Turn the guitar back over and undo your strings the rest of the way. Then it will simply pull away from its pivot posts and lift out.

If you do it that way theres very little chance of it falling out and damaging the guitars finish.

Then all you have to do it is, put the trem arm in, tighten the bottom screw till theres a definate click when you put the arm in. Dont over tighten it, you need to be able to get the arm back out. When thats sorted tighten the top screw (nearest the baseplate) so the arm is gripped but free to move.

Now the trickier bit is putting the trem back in. Get it back into place and on the pivot posts, then carefully turn the guitar over (so the trem doesnt slip off the posts) and put the springs back on. Turn it back over and re-string. Bobs your uncle and Ethel's your great aunt.
