Another great musician with a killer Strat sound. Totally 70s but good stuff. Any other fans here? You younger guys would do well to look his stuff up. What did he use for gear (besides the Echoplex)? Love Teaser!

After he split from Zephyr he was like a totally different player. Gone too soon. Loved all his stuff..... 8) Mike

I remember listening to the Private Eyes album back in the 70's. Another performer who was gone too soon.

I still do a cover version of "Brother, Brother" whenever I get a chance.
There was some "tasty" playing on Deep Purples' "Come taste the band", totally nor for Blackmore fans, but some really solid blues rock.

Oh, yeah! Some Bolin Reggae. I seem to remember an album called "Spectrum" which was kind of a Jeff Beck-like fusion effort. Jan Hammer on Keys, Narada Michael Walden on drums, maybe? Terrific spontaneous fusion. This was a long time ago. I wonder if it's still available.

I prefer the acoustic demo version from the box set, imo it's a little more "cohesive", but I know the version you are referring to!

"Spectrum" was a Billy Cobham album that is available on CD and is excellent. There are several Bolin Archive releases that are worth checking out. Beck was actually as influenced by Bolin as the other way around, and they were touring together when TB decided to join "That Stupid Club." He was the total package, and it's a shame he's not around.

I am a Blackmore & Purple fan, but not so much that I couldn't see the worth of Bolin on Come Taste the Band.

Probably not the band he should have been in - certainly his live work with the Purps was patchy at best. Perhaps it was the drugs.. On Last Concert in Japan, he was actually unable to play.

Like his solo and other stuff too. Shame he couldn't hold it together long enough to really make his mark. One must be saddened at the loss of his talent (not to mention his life) and for all the music he never made. And he nearly took down Glen Hughes with him too.

Sometimes it's true: the light that burns twice as bright, burns half as long..

Agreed, so few get the chance, it's waste when they blow it.

Got a chance to see Tommy when he was in Deep Purple, Springfield Civic
Center in Springfield, MA in 1975, I believe. Great performance. Don't forget he replaced Joe Walsh in the James Gang, as well!

I agree with that. My friends who were Deep Purple and Blackmore fans all loved Tommy Bolin. Maybe not as much as they loved Blackmore, but we all had Tommy's albums and "Come Taste the Band."
