hello. Im thinking of buying a 1976 strat the neck is original he says S# 717757 at the lower end of the neck is worn badly but he says it does not effect the sound or playing. some other parts are not 76 can I have the neck refinished? how bad will that hurt the value? and is it expensive

so the bottom end of the neck...as in the area where the markings are that help verify it's authentic? seems like a bad start...but post pics, there are a ton of smart people here (not me) that can verify it with good pics.

S7 is a 1977 Strat, not '76.

Probably. But you can never be too sure just based on the serial number.

Ya gotta look for date codes on the parts ...

i was about to say the same thing, my strat is a 1976, and actually starts with a number 76 ..
