Hello,

I just bought a "Fender American" black Strat from a reputable store (GC) yesterday. I immediately fell in love, it feels and plays awesome. I ran the serial and it appears to be a 97 Am Std, mfg in Corona. I pulled the pickguard today and it appears to be be aftermarket, WD. Pickups are labeled starting from Neck Sp 6.0k, SP 6.3k, SP 9.6k at Bridge. One of the Tone Pots is different than any other strat I've seen. If I do this right, I hope someone can help me identify what I have.

Here are some pics

I seen a picture of a tone pot today like that, when I was lookign for wiring diagrams. I'll try and see if I can find it again and get some info.

Dang, I put the strings back on and played it some more. The pot is defiantely passive, (no battery in the whole body or tremolo cover) I dont recall the 2 red caps(capacitors) and the pictures i tooks dont show them, but I shoulda taken more angles. I'll look again...and take some closer pics

Two of your pickups (B & M) appear to be installed upside down.

Are those GFS pickups? They look like others I've seen.

Might explain why I got what I think was a good deal. Actually what you see in the pics are the only markings on the pickups. I pulled the pickguard off again, the "cardboard" backing of the pickups does not come off . I took some more pictures of that tone pot and the pickups. Will post in a bit.

Dag orv after reading that I had to jump back up to the photos and look at the flatwork

Maybe upside down was the wrong terminology. They need to be turned 180 degrees.

A lot of times, you can't install the pickguard with the pickups turned around that way.

Hope this helps.
John

Sorry for the repeated posts for those who get reply notifications. I had a typo I didn't see and I thought it was relevant to id'ing the pickups.

I knew what you meant the second I looked at the picture orv and seen the flat work.

The tone 1 pot that is unique is definately a push pull, I just tried it. Never would have crossed my mind, I'm new to this stuff.

Do you think this is a Delta Tone setup?

With that inductor, perhaps there's a midrange control on there.

Passive tone mid scoop. Down standard tone pulled becomes a mid scoop.
