Hi,
I just bought a new old stock 60th Anniversary MIM HSS Strat, when I received it the plastic was still on the everything. When I pealed it off of the pickguard the glue left a sticky residue. I tried using Goo Gone on a paper towel but I was unable to get the residue off (it almost looks discolored because it's bright white where the Fender sticker was). Does anyone know how I could try and clean up the pickguard without messing up the electronics or having to just replace it?

Not sure about removing the resideue but I bought an NOS CP '50s on which the pickguard color was different under the label area due to a little fading of the exposed area of the pickguard. The dealer ordered a new pickguard and I replaced it -- easy and, even if you buy the pickguard yourself, inexpensive... I had no luck polishing out the faded area of the pickguard so replacement was required..

Squirt a little WD 40 on a paper towel and rub it off. I learned this trick to remove glue residue from a sticker that was on my sons football helmet. All of the parents of the other kids on the team were glad when I shared the trick. Supposedly peanut butter also helps remove residue. Have not tried the peanut butter yet.

If the WD40 does not work, get some 3M adhesive cleaner. Part#8984. It'll take it off.

I spent most of my life as a automotive painter before becoming a full time musician..The best thing to do is buy a can of ether squirt it on a rag and this will take the sticky residue right off..
A little helpfull hint to those out there with those white parking lot bumper rubs on there fenders and doors of there car or those black rub marks..In the shop we used the same thing to repair those rub marks and then buffed out the car ..So if your car has those rub marks save your self a couple hundred dollars and go buy a can of ether and try this i guarantee you will thank me..
