Greetings

I love all of my Fender guitars, but I also love several others as well. I'm just full of guitar love, and thought you might like to see some new arrivals, just adopted into my guitar family.

First is this Epi Limited Edition - Pirates Of The Caribbean - commemorative edition, done for the Disney release - only 400 pieces produced.

Second is the Gibson 2008 Les Paul Standard Plus, in the limited release "Root Beer" finish. Super Flamey, Burstbucker Pros, Jade Keystone tuners, special asymmetrical neck profile, white fur lined snake skin finish HSC. This is by far my new bar none favorite Les Paul. Totally in love with it.

Hope you enjoy the pics

Ahhaaa Welcome back Jrom

Well your purchases are nice, not sure i'd have sprung for the sg but the LP looks fantastic. I tried a asymetrical neck yesterday and I can assure you I dont think I've ever played anything as comfortable.

Remember I fell head over heels for the colour of your other LP. Can you tell me what colour that was and maybe post a pic? I'm close to buying one.

Nice axes. That root beer finish is one of the classier of the bunch.

I just picked my first gibby last week. Still getting to know her... but I can already tell you, much different beast than a fender.

Hey Niki

My daughter works for Disney, and I will be gifting her the SG, as she is a giant fan of the whole Pirates thing. She has a little shrine to the theme in here home, with the original movie poster, black pearl ship model and such. The tribute SG will look great hanging with her tribute.

The Les Paul that you fancied (which you called "Lemon Drop") is Gibson's Translucent Amber Flametop....I will post a pic of it for you this eve. After eating the "Lemon Drop" I now get to wash it down with some "Root Beer" Both are very tasty.

Thanks
Noodles

PS...What did you think of the reduced weight on the 2008, and I also think the new neck is way cool.

I have a few guitars of differing weights so its never that much of a factor for me. Yesterday I did compare a standard to a customshop LP. Without really knowing I presume the standard is chambered or weight relieved, the customshop not so. The guy who owns the guitar paid £7500 for the customshop. I can honestly say I've never seen such a grandiose guitar. The inlay work is all the way up the board, kind of like fire. The maple top has got to be the most heavily figured maple I've ever seen. I cant imagine he bought a chambered guitar, he's quite the traditionalist and owns a vintage instrument shop. The standard from 05 is probably weight relieved in some way. In truth I couldnt tell the difference, either in playability or weight. The CS one had hotter pickups, and thats the only difference i noticed aside from the finish.

I'm just researching the serial no on the standard he's selling. Its said to be iced tea, but seems to be too brown. I'm trying to join the gibson forum, dont they make life hard? Thats when the website works properly.

The "Root Beer" 08 Standard Plus is definitely a chambered body, I believe designed specifically for weight reduction. It is considerably lighter than the "Lemon Drop" which is a CS 58 Reissue. I actually enjoy the weight reduction, and the Burstbucker Pros with Alnico V magnets do a very nice job, but are not as hot as the 58's.

It's a different sound, a different feel, and has a personality of it's own. I have been enjoying the variety very much. It has become my "new" favorite LP. The cream binding is so nice against the Root Beer (discontinued) finish. It's really a thing of beauty....I also love when they discontinue a finish...as they have done with the "Translucent Amber" as well.

Nice guitars. I saw one of the Pirates SG's at Guitar Center several months back and was very tempted to get it. I thought that even if I didnt like playing it that it would make a nice decoration or conversation piece.

Very nice guitars, i bet they sound incredible!, the LP is the Rolls Royce of guitars. The other day i stepped on a shop and was in awe staring at the 60 year conmemorative Les Pauls, specially one in black with white pickups, and i beleive i saw one similar to yours. One thing that dissaponted me though, was that on a few LP items, the finish was a bit sloppy, noticabe to naked eye, I can´t beleive they let those leave the factory, with Gibsons reputation, and these were standards, american made.......

Judging from the shop inventory £7.5K on a gibbo CS is small change to that guy (envy). Try a never played 92 marvin with hank's signature on it. A 58 Gretsch white falcon, one of only two left in the world. The other is owned by Steven Stills.

Honestly mate, its aladdins cave, strats and teles from 68-96. 2nd hand CS guitars. He's becoming a customshop dealer too.

The Rootbeer Les Paul is without a doubt the nicest finish I've seen on a newer L.P.

I had seen the "Root Beer" finish in pics, but never in person...When I saw this one at the shop, I just fell right in love with the finish. It is really great looking. So many finishes are very close to each other, like iced tea, light burst, honey burst....but I had never seen anything like this "Root Beer", it's a real standout finish.

Thanks for looking

The iced tea, and most of the other finishes are bursts....my CS 58 Reissue is "translucent amber" which is uniform throughout the top as is the "root beer" this IMO adds a real classy touch to the flame top.

If you get the chance to see the PRS Johnny Hiland model they call the finish "tortoise shell" and it looks very much like Gib's Root Beer. This PRS model is also super sweet.

The Rootbeer Paul is just a beautiful ax, that is a hot color. The Epi is a bit much for me but I feel where ya coming from. Nikininja now you know why I love Wolfgangs. Those necks are IMHO the most comfortable I have ever played. The EBMM EVHs were a little too small as the radius was about 10 or 12 but still great necks but you get a little fatigued. The 15 radius of the Wolfgang is just on the money, though EBMM made it wider when they switched it over to the Axis as guys complained about the E string slipping off the fretboard.
