Hello all. This might seem like an odd question, but I'll ask anyway haha. Over the years of gigging and practising with my American Standard Strat the paint on the volume and tone knobs have been turning green, so I was just wondering if any of you would have any suggestions on how to dye the knobs completely white.... I think it would look better than the mouldy looking green on them.

Thanks, MetallicaRHCP

I think it would be easier to just buy white knobs.

+1

Any guitar store should carry them, and they're not expensive at all.

A most prudent solution.

If you change knobs, or paint them, you may experience MoJo Loss, this commonly occurs when a solid working unit is messed with in any way :D

Yes, we all know that "tone is in the fingers," so I'd say that what we have here is a classic case of Tone Transference, where all your mojo has migrated from your fingertips to your... erm... tone knob. It's entirely possible that you may only have trace levels of tone left in your fingers. My concern would be that painting over your tone like a rust spot you were hoping to disguise may lead to septic, occluded tone that leaves you and your audience listless and inert.

Buying a new set of knobs is definitely in order, but make sure you retain the old ones and fashion them into crude thimbles to be worn on either hand, thus ensuring that you are never without your signature tone.

Yeah, don't clean the knobs. Take them off and put the away. Then add a set of the new knobs you want.

Knobs are not expensive or hard to get.
