I have a 1990 MIJ Strat and it is kick arse! The neck is about the best I have ever played and it's a really quality instrument. I've heard that these Strats made in Japan were such good instruments that it hurt Fenders sales on the MIA models for a while back in the day but that could be all hearsay. I say if you play it and it plays nice, looks nice and feels nice go for it and dont get caught up in the whole hoopla over where it was made.

Is that US dollars? Sounds kind of high to me. I would be willing to pay maybe $450 for one.

$600 depending on the condition isn't bad really, the MIJ's have a pretty good reputation amongst a lot of players and are in line if not better than MIM Strat which runs $500, but again it's just a matter of opinion. the cheapest one I could find on Gbase was $575 other than one of the "performer" models. cheers

and if i had the cash id buy this one

I agree with Jason. $600 is definitely on the high side! I paid $375 for a pristine MIJ 67 RI less than a year ago. I'd try and talk the guy down and not pay a penny over $450. But thats just me!

For an 85 MIJ in good condition I don't believe the price is to high. Maybe for a newer model, but the mid eighty models are some of the most sought after. I have an 85 and would not consider selling it for that. All MIJ as all MIA are not in the same price range. Of course this is my opinion only. CaFeathers(Chet) is our resident MIJ expert on the forum so maybe he can shed some more light on the subject! Cheers!! :)

Of course my opinion is based on a all original guitar!

I would pay $600 if it was a reissue or a JV strat, but not just for a standard strat.

There was one that sold recently on Ebay for $416 and there's one on there right now with a buy it now for $468 i think, but the pickups aren't orginal.

And as far as MIM strats going for $500. You can get them all the time for $250-$300 used. In fact, I bought 3 of them for a total of $265.
