Any John Frusciante fans on here? IMO he's a terrific guitarist who gets the most out of a strat. RHCP might not be your cup of tee, but if you listen you have to admit the guy is very creative. Very Hendrix-like with the way he picks melody out of the chords he plays. I know he uses old strats, but I wonder if they are stock or if he has special pickups?

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Yeah, Mr. Frusciante is definitely one of many artists I try to emulate. I really dig the mindset and attitude he brings to his playing (not to downplay the technique and of course the sound ^^). I believe every guitar he owns is vintage and is stock, no special pups or signature anything of any kind. He's also been known to use an old Gretsch White Falcon from time to time and uses an old Martin 15 series for acoustic stuff.

Johnny has made 10 or so solo albums, the latest of which being The Empyrean. I really enjoyed the Empyrean, as John himself put it the album should, "be played as loud as possible and it is suited to dark living rooms late at night."

Correct. Not my cup of tea. Technically very good. But so dull. So dull.

Agreed! I love his work with RHCP, but would really enjoy seeing what he could do on his own.

Thanks for the heads up Capo! I'll be checking his solo projects out!

Whoever doesn't like John, you gotta admit-he is good. At my view, he is #1. He is the one who inspired me.

I like John Frusciante, I saw him play on the Stadium Arcadium tour. I must admit he has adapted to change the chili peppers sound in the last 20years, I remember they were more crazy funk rock sound and fast slap/popping bass lines you will find in Mother's Milk album.

I like his early work better to be honest- Mother's Milk BSSM and Plasma- They were the albums that used to inspire me to play when they came out... although the new albums are great- for me they dont inspire me to play.

Also, I loved Hillel Slovac reign in the RHCP- my favourite was Blackeyed Blonde where JF and Flea get the funk out on this version:

John is my personal favorite guitar player. I love his work with the chili's as well as his solo albums. From all of the interviews I've read with him his gear appears to be stock vintage. John is kind of a gear snob so I doubt he would used new pickups on those old strats. John uses a mustang and jaguar quite a bit on his solo work. I know he uses new marshal cabs and some new pedals but from what I could tell the times I've seen them live, most of his gear is old school.

On of my favorite videos! Nothing like the original artist showing you how to play it.
