Personally I like the Nitro finish on the HWY 1's. I know they take a beating a little more than the others and age quicker, but I don't mind this too much because I buy a guitar to play it not to have it look good.

That being said...I have a chance to get a brand new HWY 1 Stratocaster in red wine transparent for $600 from one of my best friends. He got it a week ago, took it home took the plastic off the p guard and played it for like the 10 mins then noticed a ding about the size of a button on the bottom part and a tiny little circular crack in the nitro. He took it back to Gcenter where he bought it and they said no go on a return and offered him $550 on credit for it. So now he wont even play it because he is a perfectionist. The guitar is sweet though!

So guys what do you think about this one? $600 for a brand new HWY 1 Strat with a little ding?

Another thing I noticed is G Center is now listing all their "ding and dent" items on the website for the holidays. My thoughts are they sent him a ding and dent trying to pull a fast one and he didnt inspect it well enough before he left the store. This is the same G Center I had to return the HWY 1 Tele I got a few weeks back (if you remember that thread). I did get the new one and it was all good though.

I'll try to get pics if I can but really I saw the spot and it id a ding the size of a shirt button on the bottom bout of the body where it rests against your leg.

$600? No way >_> Once you buy it and play it for 10 minutes, it is now a used instrument. Since it has a ding it is not not in mint condition that drops the value further. A new one costs only $700 and you never know if MF will have a crazy Friday Special or Black Friday, etc... So IMHO no, I'd pass on that one. >_>

yeah with them offering him 550, i told him i thought that is the most he should charge me for it. good call though, I always forget about Fender fridays!! I think I'll offer him $400 and see if he will take it, because I know he will never play the guitar again with that one little blemish on it haha

I'll assume that when you buy the "blemished" one off of him, he'll go out and buy a road worn strat next 8)

hahahhaa, the funny thing is, he told me "dude if i wanted my guitar to be blemished I would have bought a road worn" and then about stated crying!

Seriously though, it's a nice guitar and in a spot where you can barely even see it unless you are looking for it. I told him about the nitro finish and how delicate it was BEFORE he got it though!

I think I would just pay $699 for a new one. I agree with one of the other posters, offer $500-$550. Tell him it is blemmished and now a second hand instrument.

I bought mine with a couple blemmishes. It is still the best instrument I played in the store, and I did not have to worry about putting the first mark on the guitar.

See I told him not to worry about it because even though it is new it was bound to happen at some time and might as well be relieved, now he can play away and not have to worry about it. I haven't dinged my HWY 1 Tele yet but I know it is coming and well, thats part of the beauty of the nitro finish is how it ages and gets "road worn"
