Just to get the ball rolling: body shape. Those cutouts and contours make it feel different than anything that came before and most of what came after.

Please leave some ideas/suggestions for the others.

I'm trying to see if the majority is what I think it is :)

   Don't worry: they seem to be coming up with plenty of good suggestions! :D

BTW Mike, you have to come clean at some point and tell us what you think it is...

For me, it's the synchronized tremolo action, it can be naughty or/and nice depending on how you want it.

But to play devil's advocate, I think the offset guitars(Jaggie and Jazzie) more comfortable.

That's the defining characteristic of that guitar though the reliefs have been modified over time. For me, the soft body contours and deep offset
waist on the '57 are classic and should have been carried forward without modification.

Since it hadn't been added yet, I'll add the balance of the instrument. Perfect level balance when playing.

I thought for sure many would go with the synchronized tremolo. :?

I'm not sure exactly why Mike, but I never use my tremelo bar. I should learn to use it, but I grew up playing violin, so all of the vibrato has always come from my vibrating fingers.

Hey, excuse me...!?! Look back at the first response on this thread. Somebody wanted to name the syncronized trem but was told not to hog all the suggestions!

I guess I just love the way it sounds from subtle 'Walk Don't Run' type tunes to the heavier whammy-Hendrix stuff?

Is tremolo the same as vibrato....not in my book. I consider 'trills' more of using vibrato.

Damn thats a hard question!!

Erm... The way they play - the one I have I bought because I literally could not put it down in the guitar shop. Everything just seems to come together to make it feel, "right".

I think that middle / bridge pickup configuration on a clean channel through a valve amp does it for me, nothing sounds quite like it! And when the guitar feels that good, I can easily lose hours :D
