I just ordered a new Fender Deluxe LONESTAR Stratocaster (Black) and look forward to my first Fender! I recently sold a 2005 Gibson Les Paul Supreme and will just play the LONESTAR until I feel I need to modify/change anything.

I believe anything new and unique is better than attempting to mimick "known" setups. I wish to be unique and find an even more unique sound -- all by my lonesome fifty-year-old self! ;-)

I will post later after I test the factory axe arrives. Then I will go from there, if necessary!

PS Yes, I think I may be a Fender/Strat "convert" from Gibson Les Paul ... we shall see ;)

I bought the lonestar strat the christmas of 2009 for myself and I am extremely pleased with it. I use it for live use in a band and it puts out. Others are complaining of the pickup arrangement. In my opinion it is only more versatile with the humbucker. The humbucker is great for rythm guitar distorted and all those tones, it really cuts through. The middle pickups is a little less output and great for leads. and the neck pickups is a smooth low output pickups that is perfect for a fuzz rock sound or a really clean lead or rythm guitar. All in all it is a very nice instrument with a good visual appeal of the torties shell pickguard and tinted headstock. and it does have more upgraded tone controls, the tone controls on this now control the humbucker and middle pickups whereas on the standard made in mexico they only control the middle pickups. The pickups are very nice, worth about $200 bucks so its a good deal and it sounds great. I really enjoy using my lonestar when i play.

I know this is years later but I absolutely love my MIM Lone Star Strat. Perhaps its been improved since this thread was started, but the single coils in the neck and mid really deliver the classic "Wind Cries Mary" strat sound. I like that the bucker is there too at the bridge and that it doesn't sound like a third single coil. Plus it has the coil tap. It's a joy to play and I have the burgundy mist colored version used in the product demo which is kewl.
