Welcome!

You're essentially considering buying a Standard MIM Strat with pedigreed pickups. So, you'd have to consider the price of the Deluxe Lonestar vs. the price of a Standard MIM and decide if the pedigreed pickups are worth it and if in fact, you'll like the pickup combination at all.

If you want my opinion, there's nothing wrong with the guitar but I think the pickup combination is no good. The bridge pickup is WAY too loud and trebly in comparison to the other two and of course, depending on your pickup(s) selections, sometimes the guitar will be humbucking and sometimes it won't be. Further, the preset polepieces of the single coils will have your strings at uneven volumes through the amp.

As always, this is merely IMO, YMMV.

I agree with the poster above... other than the PUPs there really isn't any mojo to speak of. I am not going to say don't buy what catches your eye, because if you like it you'll play it. But for less cash I have intensely loved my MM standard for almost 3 years now, and it sounds like a "Strat". But if you get your lonestar, def post a review and tell us why we missed the boat! :)

Get the Roadhouse in a sunburst. It has the TS pups. It is the same price as the Lonestar, and the thing is a monster out of the box ... no need to change anything IMO (except to get it a proper HSC).

"Our Deluxe Roadhouse™ Stratocaster guitar is a scorchin' reissue of one of our most successful models from a few years ago; a classy guitar with superb feel, great looks and tone as big as Texas itself.

Features include three Texas Special™ single-coil Stratocaster pickups, a brown shell pickguard, tinted C-shaped maple neck with maple fingerboard, and a vintage style synchronized tremolo bridge"

Nice and if you can find an older original MIA one, go for it too.

Agreed.I have a MIA Texas Special and its a much nice guitar.Mine was originally a Texas Special Fat Strat that I converted into a SSS.I just didnt dig the humbucker.I agree with Martian that its much too trebly compared to the single coils.I was fortunate in having the custom staggered pickups with better string ballance and had to adjust the bridge pickup pole pieces.I would check out a used MIA or like the one poster said the roadhouse.IF it were me and you like the texas specials, find a guitar that feels really nice and put texas specials in.The MIM may not be the guitar that fits you the best.JMHO.

I have the lonestar strat. While I love the looks, I kind of wish I bought the Roadhouse instead. I'd rather have have a single coil in the bridge. Someone mentioned the pole heights throwing off the sound output of each string. My neck pickup is so bad, I actually bought an equalizer to compensate for it. Maybe its just how the pickup was made....

I've recently made an interesting discovery on my Lonestar Strat. I've complained to Fender that the high e string is very quiet compared to the other strings on the neck pickup only. Upon closer inspection, I noticed the pole spacing on the neck pickup leaves the high e completely off the pole, thus making it quieter. At first I thought it was a individual guitar thing. I went to my local guitar center and notice the other Lonestar strats on display all shared the same flaw. When I looked and other MIM guitars with MIM pickups, the pole position on the high e is where it supposed to be. Am I crazy or is the string, saddle, or nut spacing on the MIM Lonestar not jiving????

That's actually quite odd. I don't know anything about the Lonestar strat, but I can tell you that if you're having second thoughts about your guitar to just bring it back.

It's not too late to get the Roadhouse, or even something else if you'd like.

Its too late to return the guitar, but I am considering converting it to a Roadhouse. I found a set of old MIM single coils in my basement and just bought a 4 ply tortoise shell pickguard. I'm going to also put some vintage looking caps on it. It should look really good when I'm finished. I'm really bummed on the Texas Specials because this model guitar won't allow me to appreciate them.... I would of originally purchased a Roadhouse, but I love the rosewood fretboard....

I have a lonestar. Needed a workhorse and after trying a few guitars (BTW I had other guitars in mind) it really blew my mind. Other than little set up all I had o do is have fun with it. The sound is balanced the guitar is confortable and the tone is just amazing. After 20 years playing HH guitars this baby was the best change I've ever made. No matter what people say it is a great guitar and as a workhorse she's been working. And falling and on planes and on sunny trunks and... I tune and hit the stage and that's it. After every gig I have people asking me about the tone and this and that. So if for personal reasons you don't like it thats one thing but a great guitar it is.

All the best...

DD

I have a 2007 MiM lonestar and while not my favorite strat its not a bad guitar.
Image
I also have a1997 MIA Roadhouse which is a very favored Strat of mine with the stock Texas Special Pups.
Image
I also have a 2002 MiM standard with the stock ceramic Pups and while the ceramics are actually good pups I will at some point change them out. Most likely for something in the vintage 5/6 k range.
Image
Facts are you need to play it and decide for yourself and Fender are eminently modifiable of course.
The texas specials on the 2007 MiM do not to my ears sound very much like the Texas specials on my Mia Roadhouse. I don't know why as both are alder bodied. I bought the lonestar because it was inexpensive(250.00 w/case) and I wanted a hum equipped strat as the Fender Blender was developed using a hum equipped strat(says so in the manual). I love my roadhouse. I have not played the MiM roadhouses, but have heard 99.9 percent good stuff about them. Some differences between the MIA roadhouse/lonestar and the MiM roadhouse/lonestar would be.
The older American ones have to 2 point tremolo and the universal pup rout the mim's have the HsH rout and the 6 point tremolo. I have also heard that the texas specials are significantly different from the older MIA and newer MIM. To a degree I agree. In sound only I have noticed a difference in the single of the neck and middle between my two Tex special equipped gits.
The Duncan Hum is an okay pup to me. I am thinking about splitting it(if it has four leads) or who knows. For what I do The MiM lonestar is a great git. I have no doubt the MiM roadhouse would be an awesome guitar in capable hands.

Wow, after some of the reviews I initially read about the Lone Star guitars I would have thought they were a better guitar. After reading the post From Martian, I am now reconsidering the Texas Special pickups all together.

I recently purchased a MIM Strat HSS with stock pups. The neck and middle were okay, but the bridge HB wasn't. I found a set of Seymour Duncan APS-1's and put them in the neck and middle. I also scored a Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates and installed it in the bridge. Overall, big improvement in tone. I also wired the bridge humbucker to the tone pot via a small jumper wire. It's turned out to be a nice little axe!
