I have a Stratocaster that I purchased new in 1974. I have always preferred playing with the tremolo blocked and somewhere over the years I have misplaced the original tremolo arm. I would like to replace it now. Can anyone tell me what other year Strats used the same tremolo arm in case I can't find an original from 74?

Thanks much.

Rich

Thanks Martian for the response. So are we saying that there is no difference between a 1974 tremolo bar and a 2009 tremolo bar? The asking price for each would seem to say that that is not the case. I however would not know the difference (beyond price that is).

If I were to still want a vintage tremolo bar would a 72 or a 76 fit just as well as a 74? I would not be surprised if a 64 would fit just as well (although it would probably be more expensive). There must be some way to determine the year manufactured or how else would you know that you are getting what you are paying for?

My original question was based upon my thinking that there must be some difference based on year manufactured.

Not the MIA 2009 Standard, Martian is talking about American made vintage re-issue tremelo arms. Should be able to pick up a current made American vinatage re-issue arm for a fraction of the cost of an old original one. Check out Stratosphere's store on ebay (user name is reliablefender). They have all kinds of factory Fender parts for sale and you will more than likely find the correct arm. Remember though, Fender American Vinatge Re-Issue, NOT American Standard. Hope this helps and you that you can find the tremelo arm that you need.

Thanks for replies guys. I am still wondering if there is some way to determine what year the arms were manufactured, and if there were changes from year to year such as thread size or shape of the plastic tip.

I am not trying to pass off a new arm for a vintage one in a sale or anything like that - I have had this baby for 35 years and I am keeping it.

Thanks again.

The only thing I remember varying was the OEM bend angle of the arm. It changed ever so slightly back and forth over the years and to the best of my recollection, the arm tip dimensions and thread size were always constant. FWIW though, many players would bend the arm angle to suit their pleasure and so, you wouldn't be able to tell say for example, a 70 from a 74 as the arms' overall dimensions were constant as well.
