I was rambling areound ebay and came across this SRVstrat that some gentleman was selling for 5-6k.He says its a 92 model with a rosewood fretboard custom shop version. He claims that when they were first released the first 50-100 had rosewood fretboards( which I know to be true), but he goes on to tell me that they were also made by the Custom Shop as well.I look at the guitar and there is no custom shop logo or does he provide documentation. He pionts me to a website "stevieray.com" to back up his claims, but all the website has is hearsay that they were "supposedly " made in the custom shop at first. He also shows the signature of a Herbie Gastelum (who presently works in the custom shop) on the neck.Anyone have any insight into this mystery strat?I think the part about the first 50-100 were rosewood boards is true, the rest i think is just speculation to make a fast buck.I have seen genuine rosewood SRVs going for 3 k , but not 5-6k.

Yeah , thats what I suspect.I knew about the Brazillian rosewood boards. The seller claims the person who signed the neck is a master builder. He may be now , but he probably wasnt back in 92 when they came out.It just adds to his story, none of which can be proven. He is just trying to exaggerate to trick someone into thinking they have this ultra rare guitar IMHO.

Whether it's made in the custom shop or not a good picture of the fretboard will tell you if it's brazilian or pao ferro.

What's the date on the neck?

Well, the date supposedly is feb 12th 1992.It has a serial number of se905645.But on both the neck and the body the year is illegable , while the month and day are clear as a bell.If I were a looking for an early SRV (and i am not mind you)I would steer clear for several reasons, the story cant be supported with any solid proof, the price is out of line, the year is blurry on the neck and the body and to me the fretboard is too lite for rosewood (brazillian).I have one with pao ferro and its pretty light in color.Tighter grain too, but I could be wrong. If you are so inclined the auction number on ebay is 190345697621.
