Is this guitar made in the USA? Since this is NOT a Custom Shop guitar are the pickups "Custom Shop Fat '50s" as advertised, or are they "regular" pickups?

If they are listing it as having "Custom Shop Fat '50s" pickups, then that's most likely what they have.

Unless Guitar Center is in the business of false advertising ...

Well..... their latest catalog says the 59 reissue was a Custom Shop creation but it is not. They could be "mistaken" about the pickups also.

Enquiring minds want to know!!!!!!

No offense to anyone that loves this guitar, but why is this guitar materially different than any number of Strats you can buy for under $1000?

Maybe for collectors?

I don't see where they claim it to be a Custom Shop creation. This is what Miami Mike posted at the top of this topic. Did you leave out some key words Mike?

LIMITED EDITION 1959 STRATOCASTER® –
CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF ONE OF THE
MOST COLLECTIBLE STRATS® EVER

The 1959 Fender® Stratocaster® is among the most coveted vintage guitars for serious collectors. The '59 Strat® differed from earlier incarnations with its slab rosewood fretboard, 3-ply mint pickguard, and unique dye in the sunburst finish that caused the red to fade, leaving a unique chocolate burst that resembles earlier 2-color bursts. Fender® and Guitar Center are offering a limited run of only 59 limited edition reissues.

What would the custom shop offer that a Limited edition run would not offer ? Aside from the Custom Shop logo ?

No, I didn't leave any words out.
It's not a CS Model per Jason Ingram @ FMIC!

"The GC '59 Strat was not made in the Custom Shop. It was an error made in the copy. Great guitar though!"

orvilleowner, look further into the catalog.

In their Platinum section it says: "Now 50 years later, the Fender Custom Shop has marked the anniversary with a limited run of 59 stunning vintage recreations, available only at GC."

I already saw that before you presented that info here. I was just letting orvilleowner know where it was printed and that you did not leave any words out, it was just printed on a different page. It is agreed that this is not a Custom Shop guitar. But are the pickups CS Fat 50s or was that "an error made in the copy" also? And is it made in the USA?????

Thanks. You are quite right. They did make a mistake in the copy!

Hey all.
I played one of these today at GC. I was goaded into tryinig it by the limited edition backstory. And although it was a nice guitar, I couldn't see any real difference between it and many of the other Fenders. When I inquired how a limited edition could be $1700 i was told because it "wasn't custom shop."

i played one the other day...didn't plug it in to an amp though...but ampless it was incredibly resonant and acoustic, and i am sure it would sound awesome plugged in. great feel to the neck, and beautifully made. really reminded me of my 62 reissue and the 57 reissues i have played. as far as quality and build...it is a beautiful guitar and i really liked the chocolate burst. if i was buying a new guitar now this one would be on my list.

while the american standards are great guitars and i love my mim standard strat...the limited 59 is definately a step up and is on the same level as the 62 and 57 american reissue strats.
