Had this problem on a much modded Squier Std strat with 2 point trem.

Ran thru all the usual stuff - fitted locking tuners, had a low friction tusque nut made, fitted low friction tusque saddles, but still couldn't get bent strings to come back to regular pitch. Accurate return on trem use was an issue too

Finally found the solution: fitted an extra spring on the trem block. Had to loosen the claw though as I like the bridge floating parallel to the top. The extra spring pull was pulling it down at first. Guess it's the geometry of the 2 point set up, but it really is incredibly sensitive to spring pressure. So it becomes a real balancing act to keep the bridge parallel. In order to get it how I liked it I had to change string guage from 9 to 46, to 10 - 46.

I had none of these problems with the well set up 6 hole trem fitted as std on my 2 Fender Strats. 3 Springs is always sufficient on those, on anything upto 10 - 46 guage.

Hey guys thanks for all your replies. I'm gonna get to some solutions posted.

It of course is about fine tuning these setups considerably. That is too time consuming for a factory to keep costs down, added that time factor in maintaining the setup regurlarly clean and lubed.

One of my strats is new and stock, that's what sent me off. The other is a modded setup with graphtech trees and nut, lubed, locking tuners and tweaked as i could, a little better but i will try the next step and get a roller nut.

But first i'm gonna widen the nut slots a little. I even bout new custom springs and trien different tensions, 4 springs and that's not it. there is some evidence that after i bend a string and push a finger down on string behing the nut it does return 70% to tune

yep i'll get a roller nut and while i'm at it an earvana compensated nut to try and see if that helps with intonations on G & B up and down the neck. I am way sensitive to anything off note and that shits me most.

But i must say that these 2 pole do keep tuned well when trem is worked heavily. Jeff Beck has a nut that i gotta track down, whatever that is.

Hi Zeussa: are you sure you mean a roller nut? That's an irreversible mod and it likely won't fix your problem. I'd try everything else first if I were you.

Jeff's guitar originally came with the old Wilkinson model roller nut. Nowadays it is an LSR roller nut which is a definite improvement - but still not one most people think necessary. Google LSR roller nut for more info.

Good luck - C
