Hello and welcome to the forum. To answer your question, I've never had to use the truss rod adjustments on any of my new strats or teles but it's a nice option to have just in case!!

Hi northwood, welcome to the Forum.

I have a shim in the neck pocket of a Strat that doesn't have a micro-tilt, but on my MIAs I have never needed to use the mechanism. Because the pockets on 'em are made accurately.

And if you are asking because you have a problem then (without seeing your guitar of course) I'd be pretty surprised if that was the solution. Think about your neck relief and action before doing anything drastic like using the micro-tilt...

Cheers - C

I have used the micro tilt. It is of utmost importance that you set the relief before you adjust the micro tilt. Do you know how to adjust your neck relief or check it?

I agree with Mr. Ceri. I think the micro tilt should be the last thing to adjust after adjusting all of the options in a normal or major setup has been done and the problem hasn't been resolved. YMMV!!

thnx guys

since there is obviously quite a knowledge pool here , let me also ask this:
in the interest of being able to use the trem to bend somewhat radically sharp, as in some of the jeff beck things, must you recess the trem or let an inordinate amount of tension off the springs to keep the trem from hitting the body, I apologize if this is a stoopid question, and, once again, thanx for the help

I would agree that using the micro-tilt is a last resort when you've tried everything else. But the same is true of shimming. The micro-tilt is nothing more than a neck tilt adjuster. But I don't think it's a risky thing to do. You just loosen the neck screws, make your adjustment, and tighten the neck screws back down. It's a completely reversible procedure.

Just don't do it with the neck screws tight!

I read in one of Dan Elewine's guitar setup books that Jef Beck setup is very soft (frictionless) feel trem (two springs and .8 gauge strings).
