Curiousity has got the better of me here - has anyone done an Esquier mod to a strat? You know, changed the pickguard to a single pup, add the Tele/Esquire tone circuitry and swap the 5-way to a 3-way switch?...

Funny you should ask...

More years ago than I care to count when I was first learning guitar electronics, one of the tests I had to pass was to use a Strat pickguard, a single Strat pickup and completely wire it all up like an Esquire; pots, jack and all. Of note: There were no 5 way switches back then, only 3 way.

The aim of this test was not to modify a Strat, per se, nor just to see if I could do it. Rather, it was a, "Go / No Go" exercise to where my wiring had to look absolutely no different than if it was done OEM at Fender or by any other pro. Yes, and I guess I am bragging, I was a, "Go".

In the, "real world", let's face it, such an endeavor is a complete waste of time and materiel.
