Thanks for the headsup. Though I recorded it the first time round - having completely failed to get Clapton tickets for any show in 2009...

Cheers - C

Yeah I really enjoyed that too. Very close to the ladyland original. I got a new caption for the winwood/clapton caption thread too.

"ok Eric, I'll conceed the guitar god title to you, but I'm gonna smoke you soon as I hit that keyboard".

Winwood was superb in my opinion and really highlighted/complimented EC's playing. It was similar to watching him in the 80's. Loads of energy like Eric of old. A definate thumb to the nose to the Clapton critics of late.

Another good heads up - thank you, Louis!

Do you know, the Missus mentioned that show and asked if I was interested. I said the show would be neat, the venue maybe less so. (I visited the O2 in its previous incarnation and the acoustics were flippin' awful - so my hopes are not high for it as a R'n'R venue - but I don't know for sure...)

Stupid thing: I can't remember whether in the end we picked up tickets or not...   I'll ask the Boss!

Thanks man - C

At the risk of sounding incredibly dumb, in case you guys weren't aware the dvd/cd of the concert is available for sale for anyone interested. Is this the concert at MSG? Could be a completely different concert and I am just rambling and embarrassing myself :P . They showed the concert on one of the local channels here in the States as well, but they didn't show the entire show. Could be a different story in the UK though. I agree though, awesome show..I was lucky enough to see this one live. Alrighty, lunch is over, back to work

Take Care All,

Will

Am I the only one who thought that these two came over like middle-aged, cardigan-wearing, foot-tappers?

I'm 51, so these guys WERE my 'era', but I find some of these syrupy, middle-of-the-road, get togethers, are smug, self-congratulatory and cringe-worthy. (Not quite as bad as Robert Plant mind.)

Winwood really should not be allowed to sing... Little Wing was a travesty...

Guess I'd better get ready for the hate mail

None from me. I never did think much of the "Layla" version of "Little Wing."

I didnt think either the live version or the album version were anywhere near as bad as the way SRV attacked little wing. He played it like that goon out of hawkwind, as if he wanted to punish the strings. Gotta admit though, I dont think anyone has ever done a passable cover of it.

Check out Sting's version on his first solo album.."Nothing Like the Sun" I think..

Hiram Bullock does a tasty solo on that one. I've heard Sting murder some covers but I like that one - cos they don't try to Hendrix-ify it.

MSG was Winwood+Clapton. Next year it's Beck+Clapton. Completely different...

I suspect it comes down to the difference between selling 5000 tickets per night and 20,000. Mind you, the acoustics are not the best at the RAH either. A shallow domed ceiling is part of the problem in both venues.

Tiny venues are always the best. Which is why I'll be kicking myself for years to come for missing Beck at Ronnie Scott's...
