Hi All,
Can anyone tell me why my newly installed Hot Noiseless pickups are much lowwer output than my Japanese 1962 resissue from 1987 and another "Frankenstrat" with standard USA pups from 1997? The rating is 11k but something doesn't add up. I've checked the Jeff Beck wiring diagrams and all ok.

Thanks
Jeff :?

Double check your grounds and polarities.

Never presume the DC resistance of a pickup or even the name of a pickup for that matter to be an "in-stone" indicator of how loud a pickup will be. DiMarzio for example, has a stacked Strat pickup (the, "HS-3") with a 23.72 DC resistance and the pickup by design is VERY weak in comparison to most stacks and single coils. He also has a model named, "Humbucker From Hell" which is probably the weakest, full sized HB on the market.

You've probably wired the HN set correctly and they are in fact, working properly. Here too, in comparison to MANY stacks and single coils pickups, the HNs are not among the more powerful.

I've no experience with the hot noiseless, but the vintage noiseless came stock on my Am Dlx. I changed them out for more traditional p/u's and the more traditional ones seem to have almost twice the output.

Your observations remain accurate. Here too and by comparison, the Vintage Noiseless are VERY weak pickups irrespective of their 9K+ DC resistance.

It should be noted too that the Hot Noiseless' DC resistance is only slightly more than that of the Vintage Noiseless which in essence is irrelevant in terms of audible output.

The chief difference between the two models is the magnets. The VNs have Alnico magnets for a sweeter sound and the HNs have Ceramic magnets for a more aggressive sound, this is all.
