i currenty use d'addario 11-49. i used to use the same gauge with the wound third for a long time but fount it to tiresome to get whole step bends on the g string which seems to be where most of my bends are. Back when i started playing i played 12-52 for years. all of my friends couldn't play my guitar cuz of the bigger strings. i do agree tho that the tone is much better the thicker the string. i haven't really gotten used to the thin sound of a plain g string and i've been playing with it un-wound for about 2-3 months now.
