The original article says it was an 'aluminum guitar'? With gold-plated strings? Maybe this is why it doesn't sound the best? Still, quite the wall display.....

The gold guitar was originally chromed. This collector shows one on his website .....An interesting read which goes some way into explaining what Custom Shop were up to at the time and what these aluminium hollow bodies sound like.
