I'm sorry if this has been done thousands of times before but i'm new to guitar the this site.

I bought A mexican strat from a friend for dirt cheap ($100 but it needs new strings), but he doesn't know anything about it...

Is there stuff worth knowing about this model? Is it vastly inferior, does it play one style better than another, does it work better with different amps than the american models? That kinda stuff.

Thnx in advance.

(again, if this in the wrong forum, has been done or sumthing, i'm srry  )

Does it play well for you? Does it feel good in your hands? Does it call you to come play it? If so, there is not much else to know. If you are just stating out, an American Strat might be more money than you want to spend to learn. I gig with my MIM and there is nothing special about it except it plays and feels awesome to me. I replaced the p/u's with GFS Anlco's and shielded it and replaced the p/g. Other than that, She is stock. A Strat will do just about any style of music well other than maybe the real heavy stuff. And if you have a bucker in the bridge, it may do the heavy stuff too with the right pedal and amp combo. And btw, if you don't want the Strat, I'll take it off your hands for $150.

Many many many many many many many many MANY people who are new to Fender guitars get shunned for asking an opinion on which guitars or pickups are good or "cool". Believe me, you are NOT going to be ridiculed for having a Fender strat no matter where it was built. I think the reason people ask for opnions is because they might not have access to many different sounds at once so they reach out to whoever has. I think that's a big part of where this forum came from (other than allowing Fender to make more money because of seasoned guitar players getting newbies to buy more expensive gear :o but my respects to all Fender employees and players  ). Anyway, Mexican strats are perfect for someone with a dream to get very good at probabally the most versitile instrument in the history of the universe. After you get the money to buy an instrument with stuff that fits your particular needs, by all means, go for it. Cheers, and HAPPY PLAYING
