I just got a 60th anniversary fender strat with the h/s/s pickup configuration and I want to change it to an s/s/s pickup configuration. One of my friends got a pickguard assembly with the s/s/s setup and he gave it to me. He said the guy he bought it from said it came off a mexican strat. When I took my pickguard off, I had shielding on the pickguard by the knobs, switches, and pickups. When I looked at the back of the assembly he gave me it only had shielding around the switch and knobs, not around the pickups. Is this a Squier pickguard and not a Fender? Also is there a difference in a Fender bridge single coil pickup and a Squier one? I am assuming that there is but I just wanted to be sure. BTW here is a pic of my strat. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!

Welcome!

Nice guitar, lots of luck with it!!

Please take a picture of the subject pickguard and post it and we'll get to the bottom of it all.

Ok, here are some pics of the pickguard I was wondering about.

The pots have alpha 500k ohm stamped on them, the pickups have nothing anywhere on them, and the switch has cor-tek stamped on the metal casing and 5p printed on the plastic side.
Does anybody know if this came from a mexican fender strat or if its from a squier or maybe something else? Thanks.

That's a Squier or very old MIM setup. Those are all, "bottom of the barrel" components. You'd be going 10 steps backwards if you used that in your guitar. I doubt that even that pickguard's screw holes would match up with your guitar.

It looks like a Squier pick guard and guts. Have you heard the tone that it can do for your guitar?

Personally I would not use this one unless you know how it will sound with your guitar. If it does not sound good then I would just change the volume pot, buy whatever single coil pick up you want for the bridge, and new Fender pick guard. Fender pick guards will have the foil shielding to include the pick ups.

Best of luck with your endeavor.

Thanks for the info. I'll probably just buy a single coil pickup, a pearloid pickguard and I'll use the other 2 single coils in the strat right now. I appreciate the help.
