Hey Fender Friends!

I'm really happy with my new Highway One but it is a fact that I bought it with the intention making several changes. One of the things I am considering is replacing either the tremolo block or the whole assembly. So I wanted to know what you have and if you have tried more than one brand.

Thanks... cheers!

I prefer the wilkinson 5+1. I had a callaham block in my MIM. I put the wilkinson in it and it immediately improved. Not only the sound but the playability also as the wilkinson converts 52mm string spaced guitars (of which the highway1 is one) to 56mm. All for around half the price of the callaham. The sustain and initial zing is atleast comparable if not better.

Thanks nikinija! That was the answer I was looking for. I have been interested in the Wilikinson 5+1. Though my Highway One is "Made in USA" it seems as if the tremolo is the same in an MIM Strat according to the info available in Calaham's. If this is not correct somebody please speak up!

If you deal with Bill Callaham, you better be sure that you got it right. He will not work with you to make it right if you screw up! That's just my experience! Good luck!

Do any of the upgrades to OEM improve sustain or tone if the block is hardtailed? Or if it's no longer floating does it make no difference?

A hard tail will not have a trem block will it? :?

I didn't mean a hardtail as such... but one with a block that's been 'hardtailed', or blocked off, as it were.

Oh, got ya! Yes, I would imagine it will. It is still adding the extra mass of the solid steel block to the guitar and so should still make a difference to the tone I would imagine.

Nike why did you prefer the 5 + 1 as opposed to the regular vintage Wilkinson? Any big advantages? As always thanks for the info.
