Welcome to the Forum.

That price seems a little high to me, especially for a guitar that needs fret work.

To answer your question though ask the seller to take off the neck and get pics of the end of the neck and of the neck pocket.

An E8 serial number would suggest that is is eighties (E), year 8 or 88.

I was looking at that one, looks nice but I also think the price is too high.

The other thing that worried me was, what was the dodgy period for Fender.... was it the 80's? (I just put up a thread to ask.)

Thank you for your help. The seller has lowered the start price to 700 punds. Seems more fair to me.

I sent him a cheeky message to suggest it was still a bit steep... which I think it is, but I might be wrong. I'm not really interested at that sort of price (rather have a more recent one for about £500.00), but maybe you could try him with an offer.

$1159.160839161 which is WAY too much for a guitar which needs immediate and serious fretwork.

I would say about $600 maybe $650. I went into GC the other day to check out a Strat Plus tagged at $799 and the frets had divots so deep, the only fix would be a total refret. I showed it to the salesman and said I'll be right back with a good price. Well he offered $40 and I basically though he had lost his mind and walked out. Buyer beware! Sometimes you just have to run away!

On the other hand, I saw an 88 RI (57?) selling somewhere recently for about $1,900 so perhaps I don't have the complete picture.

Have to be careful about those. Apparently the V #'s are not reliable. Must go by the neck dates. Production resumed on those in October 1985 after the company was reorganized, but they were originally introduced in 1982.
When reinstated they began again with V0000001. This according to Duchossoir.
